If you're just doing carry-on, you could push it to 7:10 or so.

Are you going to use the check in machine in the premium terminal at LAX or do you wish to have a person check you in?
Dont know if this is normal, but I lined up to check in at the Business class premium check in in LAX, hoping to get a staff member to assist. I waited there for 40 mins before anyone served me and there were only 2 people ahead of me
This was at 10am on a Thursday.

LAX Elite Check-In [Terminal 6] Questions
Went thru there last week on domestic F and for the 1st time was forced to use the baggage check-in kiosk and then wait at the counter for someone to
tag the bag and give me the tags. That's all that person did..... I asked about trying to see if my return flight upgrade had cleared and was told to do that at the gate. At the gate the agent apologized and said they have no UA employees out front anymore, just contractors. How long has that been going on?

Experience with LAX check-in
Can there be a bigger dump than the landside Departures area of UA's LAX terminal? The T6 so-called Premium Check-in area is thoroughly disgusting and nowhere near the level of Premium check-in found on the other side of the Pacific. Not only is there nothing special about the area itself, but it leads to a vastly understaffed security screening area that can take forever to get through. Shame on UA for having such a third world facility at a major gateway!

This check-in area has bounced back-and-forth between T6 and T7 several times in the past two years or so. I think it depends what day/times you hit it. I generally go through there in mid-late afternoon/weekdays and, while the current T6 c/i area doesn't look great, I've had quick, efficient, often helpful service. As far as the elite security line, here the problem is that the space is not conducive to creating a lot of screening stations. Sometimes when I've hit the screening area, the elite line has not been open; but have not waited more than 3 minutes to get through the magnetometer. So, I'll take efficiency over looks; and in my experience it has been fast, since moved over the last time from T7. (Now that ["elite" c/i, not TSA] was a model of s-l-o-w.)

They have a Terminal for Premiers understuffed as any other Premier CI.
C is totally under stuffed, 1K is usually 1 GA and IF no GS shows a second GA.
Security is usually enforced for Premiers, they have a min of 2 lines for themselves. What do you expect? Nice red carpets and friendly overstaffed booths? Get Real, take a look at SFO,ORD,IAD,DEN are they better?

LAX is one of my favorite airports in the US, at least in T6 and T7. I've gone through security 250+ times there and never waited more than 5 minutes. In fact security is so quick there that I'll go out to the bridge several times for a smoke on a 3 hr layover. I like Wolfgang's pizza, and I like Biersch beer, so I'm good to go.
I have had a few (~10%) lengthy experiences at check in.

Maybe you were in a bad mood today.
Maybe you caught LAX at a bad time.
Maybe Both.
My experience in T6, after nearly 100 departures since they changed back to T6, is that it's great. The staff are excellent, I rarely wait more than 5 min to get helped, even if I need to see an agent, and I have NEVER taken longer than 15 minutes to get through security. Usually less than 10 minutes.
AA's Elite section in their LAX terminal is much nicer, 'appearance-wise.' But the service is seldom good, lines are always longer, and you have to stand in another TSA line with your bag after checking in (that is not just for elites, and sometimes very long). It's much less enjoyable than T6.
LAX, as a whole, is not a great airport. It's old, and not well maintained. But I cannot say negatives about the T6 staff or wait times. They have helped me out many times. ^
