Buy on Board has gone downhill
I bought some of the $5 vouchers when I purchased tickets since running for planes might not give much time to go to lounge and get soup and salad.
The BOB has really gone downhill. All hot entrees have disappeared except the fairly horrible pizza. I liked the spicy black bean soup and the Lindt chocolate and both are history too as was the chicken Risotto.. Sandwiches and salad have gone up to $6 but the $5 voucher now get you a drink or sandwhich plus a 2$ item so if you cannot find good food, you can at leat drink your voucher.

Chips and cookies, but no apples or carrots
Agree completely! On several recent flights, the only snacks available were cookies or chips; no apples or carrots were provided. The explanation given was that they double-catered the flight, and therefore did not have room. When traveling with a small child, we certainly prefer "fresh" food over the other stuff.

I don't recall the BOB to be top of the Hill at any point. As soon as the service was introduced, I strongly felt that there goes inflight service and food. ON Garuda for a short flight from Jakarta to SIN we were served a nice litle snack and drinks, a really nice touch. Might I add all done with Indonesian graciousness.

Let's face it. The key differentiator in choosing an airline, for most people, is price, and price alone. They may well then complain that they don't have this or that amenity, but price does it.

I would prefer getting there safely than having a snack, drink and "graciousness".
Incidentally, I think talking of a generic national characteristic in this way is pretty offensive....

NAmerica is a different environment completely. As for adding $10, most people want cheap seats and only complained about airline meals when they got them "free" anyhow. If you can't manage 5 hours max on a flight without a meal then you're really in trouble. With all the food stands at airports selling prepackaged carry-on items, what's to complain about. There was no demand for the hot stuff, so it's been taken off the menu. Most people have little or no taste when it comes to food, so they'll appreciate the pizza. And it seems those complaining are the ones who are flying on passes or SEs and should easily be able to get into the front cabin any time they want.
I realize we all can't spend a half-hour in the MLL before all our flights, but AC have improved the food available in the lounges for just this reason...so its regular customers who have to sit in the back have a chance to have some healthy soup and salad before flying, and don't have to rely on the inflight BoB. Compare the offerings in the MLLs to any other business class lounges (save the odd international ones) and they will wipe the competition for catering and drinks. Better AC takes care of its best customers than squanders the same money on fliers who will never appreciate the quality.

The whole EU banning thing is all messed up. Really.
The EU has internal issues and can't seem to figure out how to solve them. So by creating the ban list, they are actually making their problem someone else's (ie. exporting their problem without solving their own).
Now, this is not to say that there is no value in the this because I am not saying that, but there is a need to put some of it into perspective.

An issue that particularly irks me is that if one flies on mailline AC, you can buy a sandwich if the flight is two hours or more. If you fly QK, the flight needs to be three hours or more.
