Nope. I just tried that with another property. Hyatt reached out and the property told them to pound sand. Really not seeing the point of loyalty programs at this point if hotels don't even need to follow the rules.

if I change my stay Sunday - Sunday, system allows standard room (same as above) available with cash and/or points.

is this allowed by Hyatt?
Which property? You haven't provided enough info to tell if this is a violation or not. There could be minimum stay requirements at play.

How will more details help? Hyatt can't even agree on the policy amongst themselves. Ask them five times and you'll get a different answer every time depending on which benefits them that specific time. Can they have a minimum stay requirement on award bookings but not cash for the same dates? Can they have an infinite minimum stay requirement? 90 night minimum stay so nobody can use points? Nobody knows!

We have no facts of the case other than a room is not available on points. Not clear how you expect people to respond here without more details.

Resurrecting this thread with a couple more annoying data points.

Hyatt Vivid Grand Island is not available on points for any length of stay other than for a check-in on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday nights in February 2027. However, it is clear that the base room type is Junior Suite Bay View King Bed, which is available for cash for stays starting on Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday but not points.

Secrets Akumal is even trickier. The base room type available for awards is Junior Suite King, which as far as I can tell it not available for any Thursday/Friday/Saturday in February 2027 - instead, the lowest room category available on those dates is Junior Suite King Tropical View. Looks to me like the base room is a 'fake" category if you will, made up solely to manipulate award availability.

Not sure if I'm missing something, but Lindner Vienna has base rooms available on July 16 (King or 2 Twin) for cash but not points. The same rooms are available for both on June 16, for example.

Is there a legitimate reason that this can happen?

Any thoughts on the above? Is that allowed?

This is exactly what's not happening for Lindner Vienna: standard room is available at standard rate, but not award.

Contacted Twitter. Said hotels are free to block awards on busy dates.

PH Vienna is doing this as well for every date past September 1st. They are allowing point bookings for standard and premium suites but not for standard rooms. Cash bookings for standard rooms are available. Wine weeks and Oktoberfest shouldn’t cover all of October, November, etc.

It’s happening at Mumian Shanghai Expo too. Not a single room available with points EVER. I contacted Hyatt, got fobbed off, asked for escalation, got ignored for 10 days and now they’re saying they’ve contacted hotel management and they’ll get in touch with me. It has been 3 days. My stay is end of next week. I’ve booked cash but want to use points. Every room listed is available at the standard rate with cash. Hyatt won’t tell me what the standard room is. Bizarrely the king room, which is the smallest room, is in the mid price range yet the King Deluxe is priced lower (premium with various views is too). What is hotel management going to say to me? Hyatt should be enforcing their policies on them. Poor service from Hyatt. It’s now 15 days since my initial complaint about it. It seems like it’s becoming a common issue.

Yeah, becoming much more common.

Looks like hotels are playing games big time, knowing the points devaluation is coming (which means for them, they will most likely receive considerably fewer points bookings).

It is and it has been and you are simply wasting time and emotional energy with all these machinations about it.

For this stay, pay cash and move on or cancel it do something else. Obsessively "escalating" to anyone and everyone at Hyatt is very unlikely to open up award space...

I understand what you mean but if I can’t redeem my points because more and more hotels aren’t following the rules and Hyatt isn’t enforcing them, there’ll become a point where it’s not longer worth paying a premium to stay with brands like Hyatt. This comes on the back of the recent CEO statement about it being an “emotional” relationship.

Then... don't.
