I’m also Diamond Amb. I booked two rooms in Sept, one suite and a basic essential and that is exactly what I received. I didn’t feel like going back and forth with the not so friendly front desk. I was semi satisfied with the fact both rooms were next to each other. The stay was very “meh”.

I have to agree with ARR72 regarding the front desk agents. None were rude but it didn't seem like they were enjoying their day at work.
My Room was upgraded on the day of arrival(prior to check-in) from Essential to Hollywood Sign View on the 15th floor. Room was pretty basic. No sounds heard from other rooms, hallway or the freeway.
Used the secret password and received free valet parking(other two options were both some sort of drink credits/discounts).
Received free breakfast voucher as Diamond good for any hot items and OJ was free as well. There was free coffee until 10 am at the restaurant, but any other hot drinks on the menu were not included with the Diamond voucher.

Would anyone like to give me their opinion of staying at this hotel while attending an event at the Hollywood Bowl? It will be a group of several friends and we are actually considering flying (SF) so we may not have a car . Is this a good location or would anyone suggest other Kimptons or IC’s for this weekend? Thanks
Ps, I’m Diamond/Ambassador if it matters.

Stayed here for one night and enjoyed my stay. The Hollywood sign view from my room was awesome and it's a fantastic location next to a metro station (useful for Universal Studios), a cool music store, a Star Wars bar, and a lot more. I actually quite enjoyed the Hollywood location. Pool area also has nice views and wasn't crowded when I went (late Sunday afternoon).
Also got free valet parking for the night with the Kimpton password ("Social sent me") and a $10 bar credit for holding the IHG credit card and being Platinum. Only main negative was the ridiculous $46 amenity fee even though I used a 40k cert. I wish those kind of games weren't allowed.

Any recent experiences at this property?
We've got a stay booked for next weekend (not planned specifically for this, but very happy to not be in SFO next weekend
), and bringing the kids to Universal. Figured this would be a good property to check out, as we (esp. kids) generally are happy at the Kimpton's we've stayed at. I'm IHG Platinum now if that helps (kids are also very happy that we normally choose the 'raid the pantry' benefit).
Anything we should know? We considered Hilton Universal - to be in walking distance - but I think this is close enough to the park, and generally, Kimpton > Hilton. Also wondering how convenient/safe it is to take the Red line over to the park. Would rather not park over there, but seems like this might work out well?
Can anyone tell me how much parking is a night? Having trouble locating current rates (although understand DPs above showing they comp. that for the secret password, which would work out well if its that.)

I stay here occasionally when I am attending an event in the area, despite living about 30 miles away. Being able to bring my dog makes it an easy choice, so I often consider it when I am going to a concert in Hollywood. I like the location and comfort/style of the hotel, and consider the area to be quite walkable (just be mindful of the freeway underpasses). They also have a nice pool, overlooking Hollywood, but they do occasionally have pool parties on the weekend. The neighborhood in general is a lot more geared towards younger adults than families, but I wouldn't let that deter you, as long as you are OK in urban areas. Hollywood definitely has a seedy side, and there is a lot of nightlife in the vicinity, so don't be expecting Downtown Disney vibes here.
Despite all the claims in here, I don't recall ever getting parking as the password prize, so don't be surprised if it doesn't happen. The current charge is $70/night, which is pretty absurd, even by LA standards. I have occasionally risked street parking and never had any issues, but I usually just book something nearby on SpotHero. There is a very secure garage a few blocks south, across from the Palladium, that is usually quite cheap. The walk to the Red Line is perfectly safe and easy (actually now called the B Line, but even many of us locals can't keep the letters straight). You may cross paths with a few colorful characters, but simply minding your own business and having a modicum of common sense is almost always all you need. It is the only sensible option for getting between Hollywood and Universal, and it also quite convenient for getting to K-Town or downtown.

The area is easy to navigate and generally pleasant.
Nearby points of interest include the Capitol Records Building, the Emerson College Los Angeles Center and the Chateau Alto Nido.
With a bit more effort, Griffith Park is reachable on foot or by bike and offers green space and superb views over the city.
For drinks or food nearby: Frolic Room, Lily’s Bar and SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa.
Enjoy!
