Alaska 106
Fairbanks to Seattle
Dinner - Guajillo Roasted Chicken

The black bean stew marinade is what really made this dish a winner for me. Great flavor, decent spice and a bit of that tasty Cotija cheese. The hummus/bean dip made a nice accompaniment, though as always the toast was so hard I feared dental damage. Dessert was a chocolate mousse.
Overall, one of the better meals I've been served of late on Alaska.

Ravioli with Miso Cream & Portuguese Sausage
Decently tasty but a bit oilier than I would've preferred. Slow service on this flight as the meal came out at the halfway point of the flight. No turbulence until the last twenty minutes of the flight, so it wasn't that.

AS 15 DCA-SAN November 9th
Brown Butter Pancakes (on board review!)

Served with granola, cinnamon bread, yogurt and some fruit.
All in all, pretty good. Bacon and pancakes were good and tasty, not too oily. Pretty basic though. I would have gone with the scramble eggs and bacon if I had to pick again.
Granola was super tasty, fruit was oranges and grapefruit with some cinnamon. Cinnamon bread was bit dry but still tasty. Was completely full so I did not have the yogurt.
I always have good meal experiences on AS. This meal gets a thumbs up for me!

AS 208 JFK-PSP
Boeing 737-8 MAX

Menu (last two items only available by pre-order)

Not-warmed snack mix and an beverage

Chili Shrimp & Black Rice (grilled chili-marinated shrimp over a rich black rice risotto with fava beans and tomatoes, finished with a lime butter sauce)

Salt & Straw "Pumpkin Spiced Latte Cake" ice cream, served as its own course much later in the flight. Rock hard, but very tasty.

AS418, MCI-SEA this afternoon, with the tandoori chicken salad. I didn’t want something too heavy as I planned to grab some food at the lounge, so this was perfect. The spicing on the chicken was excellent (though it could’ve used a third piece of chicken, imo) and the greens were fresh. Not quite sure what the pudding was, but no complaints about it.

Would a midnight SEA-FAI flight in first just be a snack basket, or a plated light meal of some sort?

Breakfast pastry with fresh fruit. Warm cinnamon-apple pastry with a small side of fruit. Pastry was good, fruit was fine just a very small quantity.

Just Egg bowl. Tasty, I think the caterer forgot to add roasted grape tomatoes to the dish. The cinnamon topping (?) for the grapefruit/orange segments was a bit odd. Fresh fruit portion seems to have shrunk a bit.
They also offered coffee cake, which I declined to avoid the gluten.

Available selections were the jack cheese omelet (which I chose via preorder), orange cranberry brioche French toast, Parmesan scrambled eggs and bacon, JUST egg with sauteed greens, and the good ol' Signature Fruit & Cheese Plate.
This omelet was really good, a meal I would happily pay $20 or so to get on the ground. The two pieces of chicken sausage were flavorful without being hot-spicy, the pepper was nicely roasted, and the risotto beats some meals I've had served in a restaurant. It came with sides of yogurt with fruit, which I liked, and sliced circles of mango and grapefruit (which are fine but not my favorite, and not a knock on the dish just my preferences). No coffee cake on this trip; it appears the Biscoff was the "substitute" which worked for me because I doubt I could have finished a cake and I can take the Biscoff with me for later.
There's now a new (to me, at least) cranberry & lime seltzer that goes nicely with this. It seems to have replaced the blackberry (blueberry?) seltzer, which I also liked but like the cranberry & lime one better. All in all, a really good dish served well, especially for 35,000 feet.

Available selections were the Tillamook cheeseburger, chili shrimp & black rice, smoked chicken ravioli (which I chose via preorder), yellow cauliflower curry, and the tried-and-true Signature Fruit & Cheese Plate. This was not bad, overall I was pleased. The two squash pieces were absolutely massive in comparison to how they were depicted in the glamor shot on the preorder page. They had a hint of sweetness (maybe it was the sauce? I am not a food expert, I only eat the stuff) but overall worked and I'm not the biggest fan of squash. Same as the squash, the ravioli were also large; in fact, the dish looked like larger portions than the picture showed which is a nice surprise. The chicken filling to the ravioli was nicely done in a finely shredded style. Add salt if you want, I did it on two and didn't on two others and I liked it both ways. Shallot was cooked just soft enough to be easy to cut. I could have done with a bit more sauce because the edges of some of the ravioli that didn't get "enrobed" were less al dente and more chew-on-this-for-a-bit but, as with every meal, I look at it from "how is this at 35,000 feet" and I'm just being picky here.
The side of warmed mixed nuts was served in advance but I resisted scarfing it down to stage it with the photo because I like including it. The bread side with dip (hummus or tahini, again I am bad at food) was good though if the bread pieces had been any larger their chewiness would have been too much. The rice pudding, however, no thank you very much. Way too sweet and thank goodness for the cranberry & lime seltzer to plunger down the tentative bites I took.
This doesn't quite rise to the level of "I would buy this meal on the ground" like the breakfast served on the outbound did, but if this ravioli and bread side were on the buffet in the lounge I would make a beeline for it.

Have the hummus/dips appetizers replaced salads entirely, or is that just shorter route? I'm flying SFO-JFK in a few days and was definitely hoping for salad (and ice cream?).
