Mojo Chicken Bowl
AS 1121 SAN-PDX
1/1/25
Got upgraded around T-2 so no time to pre-order the Tillamook Cheeseburger but can't complain too much since an upgrade on an -800 is pretty rare these days. Of course the only thing they had left by the time they got to me in 3C was the chicken bowl which sounded ok so I figured I would at least try it--never again. I tried to eat the chicken but it was drenched in a brown sauce with such an overpowering flavor (not necessarily spicey which I usually like--just not good) that I couldn't eat another bite. Since there was no salad or roll to supplement the meal (probably not long enough of a flight) I went ahead and ate some of the rice which actually was light, fluffy, and delicious. It probably didn't help that my seat mate had preordered the Tillamook Cheeseburger and chips which looked great as always. Positive side note: I tried another new-to-me meal option on PDX-SFO that I flew on 12/30 and it was AMAZING--the Mediterranean Chicken Salad--would definitely order that again in a heart beat.

AS 405 1/10/25 OKC-SEA (Lunch)
Preorder offered 4 choices:
Tillamook Cheddar Burger
Chicken Harvest Salad
Cuban Mojo Chicken Bowl
Fruit and Cheese Platter (served on a plate)
Option chosen: Cuban Mojo Bowl pre-ordered
Pre-departure beverage offered. Drink and Food orders taken/confirmed while on ground.
Cups picked up at door closing, but we sat 1 hr for baggage loading after that with no service.
#1 FA JD went above and beyond otherwise. Beverage/Snack mix delivered first to entire cabin, then meals delivered, then drinks again, then tray pick up. Cookies came next, then another drink offer. Snack basket 1 hr before landing and drinks again. I believe he was legacy AS, but didn’t ask.
Meal was not acceptable, however. This dish comes with just a bowl and no accompaniment. The dish is over-spiced and I wouldn’t recommend anyone order this unless they enjoy hot level spice (where you can’t taste anything but spice and heat). I sent it back and felt bad that I had to do it. He offered a Salad Option after I asked for another option.

AS 1168 1/10/25 SEA-BUR (Dinner)
Preorder offered four choices:
Tillamook Cheddar Burger
Chicken (fill in the unknown) Salad
Brazilian Beef (fill in the unknown) Bowl
Fruit and Cheese Platter (served on a plate)
Option Chosen: Brazilian Beef Bowl pre-ordered
PBD - Can’t remember if offered
Beverage/Meal Orders - Taken after level off
Beverages delivered first, but no snack mix to entire cabin
Food orders delivered with cookie (one tray) refill drinks were on request and only offered once. Flag-down otherwise.
Another meal in a bowl that had no accompaniment other than the bowl of food. This item had a better seasoning and taste. It’s served with cooked plantains (tostones) and nothing spicy about this dish.
Additional beverages on flag-down request only. I don’t remember if the snack basket came around, but I think NOT.
Quite a contrast to the previous flight, and made me wonder why the service consistencies can’t be the same on all flights. Both were on -900 aircraft with 4 FA.

AS 1369 1/11/25 AUS-SFO Breakfast
Got upgraded at just under T-24 so no opportunity to pre-order, but I would have picked this. Parmesan eggs and bacon. Very tasty but the proportion of eggs to the other items was too small. That was a massive amount of bacon. Accompanied by a warm raisin roll. I would have killed for a plate of fruit with this. Service was good.

AS 534 1/12/25 SFO-AUS Dinner
Preordered the Brazilian Chicken and thought it was great. Accompanied by an olive roll. I'm not a fan of olives so would have preferred something plainer, or at least a choice. Dinner was preceded by drinks and the miniscule tray of nuts and salty things. Service was a bit off. I was in row 3 and hadn't yet gotten my dinner when the FA was removing trays from row 1. Dinner was followed almost immediately by the snack basket, and then a bit later by a cold chocolate chip cookie for dessert. No PDB.

My wife and I both had the burger. Mine came with a hair in the middle. Crew most apologetic and offered me something else but Id lost my appetite. They took photos and said theyd report it. Ill be doing the same when I get home. In the meanwhile

Unexpected accompaniment to my burger!

AS 358 on 19-Jan-2025, two of us traveling together so I can show off two breakfast meals catered for the same flight.
Neither of us eats pork, but one of us needs a gluten free meal so we pre-ordered the Apple Pancakes and the Parmesan Eggs with Bacon (and didn't touch the bacon.) I wish there was an option to hold the meat in cases like this; the waste offends me, especially where killing an animal is concerned and the relatively greater waste of animal protein vs. plant foods.
First the Apple Pancakes served with (IIRC) chicken sausage:

AS F breakfast Apple Pancakes with Chicken Sausage
A detail photo is useful for this one as the apple in these pancakes came as actual diced chunks of fruit. It was not "apple flavored" or miniscule shreds of apple. The bit of skin on one bite made me think they used Granny Smith (or some other yellow/green varietal) for the dish. I appreciated that the chunks made the dish feel more homemade and less institutional food.

Actual chunks of apple in the apple pancakes
Flavor of the apple pancakes was mild and pleasant. I would eat this again. I don't know that I need apples in the pancakes to make me like the dish, but I think most people like more exciting food than I do and can see how apple pancakes sound more exciting than buttermilk. I don't usually eat syrup (because I'm so happy with bland food like plain or buttered buttermilk pancakes), but I tasted this syrup for you guys. If the syrup was also "apple flavored" I couldn't tell. It was either regular maple syrup or possibly had a hint of cinnamon to complement the apples; that hint of cinnamon may also have been in the pancake, or I could have imagined it. In the end, I'd say this dish leans toward the innocuous not the highly flavorful, but it made a fine breakfast for someone like me who doesn't want stimulated taste buds in the morning.
The eggs were cooked decently for a tray meal, but they weren't nearly as tasty as the Parmesan eggs in my family member's meal. (I remembered liking the Parmesan eggs better, and stole a bite from my kid to confirm they were better yesterday, too.)
I've had chicken sausage on AS before, and took one bite of these before giving my voracious teen the rest (since he couldn't eat his own bacon.) These aren't my favorite type of poultry sausage (that would be Applegate Chicken & Maple), but they're perfectly edible.
I ate my roll and it was fresh with good texture, but I hate the inclusion of nuts and raisins. Plain bread would make me happier. Yup, I like my meals that bland.
The fruit portion felt skimpy (didn't fill the bowl in an attractive way), but all the elements were fresh and tasted as good as they should.

Since my kid doesn't eat pork or gluten, the meat and roll were left untouched on this tray. He was satisfied with the eggs and potatoes, but happier when I gave up my chicken sausage.
He had no other comments about his meal, except that I spend too much time on FlyerTalk, then he put his headphones back on and went to sleep so he could ignore me better.

Notice the butter please! My favorite. Still, something was missing. Can you guess?
