Used the new facial system at AUS yesterday. It took pic then asked me to insert travel docs, which were rejected multiple times before finally getting red notice to see an agent. Minimal line and agent scanned my face with his device and waved me through, saying that the scanners sometimes do this. Really glad to have GE since regular lines were loooong!
I arrived in DFW in August and facial system was faultless and through in less than 20 seconds.

Just a quick data point for EWR terminal B from last week 14th november arrived to the machine it is a facial recognition only. There is no passport needed no moving a camera to get your face in it. Just go there stand in front of it and your face appears on the screen. Then the lights around it go green. There is a customs person right there if need anything to declare. I just said I had tea and chocolate she just said enjoy them and that was it. I got to the carousel way before the bags arrived and way before the crew etc

Used new facial kiosks at LAX yesterday. Thanks to FT was able to explain to my wife as we walked to immigration what to expect. Walked up, looked at camera, got the proceed message. Walked to hear our names being called out as good to go. Stopped and asked if I need to declare food and he said "yes, what do you have?" (Coffee, chocolate, candy, dried nuts, tea) "thanks, you're fine".
Noted that there is no sign or notice on the kiosk screen that says you need to wait for your name to be called out as ok to proceed to customs. In the scrum I could see someone just walking through based on the kiosk wording. The space is short enough between kiosk and desk that it was confusing. I knew to wait for my name, but others...? I think I saw people walk through in the crowd mess
asides: Also noticed that at customs there wasn't any human screen that we noticed. Used to walk past a desk staffed or have a GE lane maybe, but wondering if now it is handled differently -- people using mobile apps, GE, etc? Long line at interview on arrival GE around noon Saturday.

Went through facial recognition at LAX Thomas Bradley today . After I stood still for photo , I had a message stating Proceed to the officer. I stopped at the officer and she said my last and first name , checked her screen for about 5 to 10 seconds and said you can go . No paper. I had only carryons so I walked through baggage claims to arrival hall . No slip to give to anyone

I vaguely recall seeing language to the effect of "proceed to officer" on one of my entries, but not sure if this is an accurate memory, or it's consistent at all airports or if it has changed. Am currently outside the US, will try to pay attention on my upcoming return...

Used the lines at Toronto YYZ. Wife as a US PR and Nexus holder was recognized with glasses without issue. Machine didn't recognize me, asked to insert documents, I tried to scan the back of my Nexus card but no luck, by the time I pulled out my passport it was flashing red and said something along the lines of Check with Officer. I waited for it to clear, then took off my glasses, at which point it turned on again and recognized me. Went to the lineup, was directed to a lane by an airport agent, went to a lane, where the officer took our cards, including my wife's US green card and took her photo. He asked if I was a US citizen, I said yes and he waved us through (no photo needed for me). Total time from entry into the NEXUS area to exit was 3 minutes.

Arrived on CI12 TPE-JFK on Saturday, bussed from the tarmac to CBP, which drops you off at the far end of the hall from the GE lane.
There was an employee standing there letting people know "no passports needed, just let it take a picture of your face".
At the CBP desk I said "I have food items to declare" and held out a post-it note I had written in advance and the agent instantly replied "you're good" without even reading it /shrug

Entering at BOS this past week it was the fastest and smoothest GE entry for me - 5 seconds at the machine (scanned my face successfully with my glasses on), just waved through by CBP officer after cursory question about anything to declare. (Did not have to present passport.)
Happened to glance at officer's screen as I walked by - it looks like the screen shows id pictures of about 10 people at once, presumably those who have gone through the facial scanning or otherwise interacted with the kiosks and are waiting to walk up. Presumably that's enough for the officer to visually match the person walking up with one of the pictures on screen, and no further details need to be verified in most cases.

Interesting. I have a lot of difficulty using the machines without my glasses - I am extremely blind (actually legally blind), and cannot see the machine at all without my glasses. I am always inevitably looking in the wrong place, or I fail to see further directions (like insert travel docs), and so it's a giant fail for me every time. Last week at PDX, the CBP guy yelled at me to take my glasses off as soon as I got to the line, and wouldn't listen to me that I couldn't see without them. I then stood near the machine, failing repeatedly, and he yelled at me. The whole thing is really stressful after getting off a long international flight, and I can't help but feel like it's a giant ADA violation. I'd love to be able to keep my glasses on to go through the process.

Global entry kiosk not asking for custom declarations
I used global entry for the first time to re-enter the US. The Kiosk prompted to look at the screen for a photograph, then said to continue to the officer. There were no buttons/prompts, this all happened automatically. The officer had a screen which appeared to have all the photos taken, they confirmed my name, handed me a card that said "Global Entry", then said to continue through to baggage claim. After baggage claim I handed over the card and that was it.
I was under the impression the kiosk was meant to ask the customs declarations questions. I didn't have anything to declare, but should I have done something differently?
