Interesting. I have a lot of difficulty using the machines without my glasses - I am extremely blind (actually legally blind), and cannot see the machine at all without my glasses. I am always inevitably looking in the wrong place, or I fail to see further directions (like insert travel docs), and so it's a giant fail for me every time. Last week at PDX, the CBP guy yelled at me to take my glasses off as soon as I got to the line, and wouldn't listen to me that I couldn't see without them. I then stood near the machine, failing repeatedly, and he yelled at me. The whole thing is really stressful after getting off a long international flight, and I can't help but feel like it's a giant ADA violation. I'd love to be able to keep my glasses on to go through the process.
