Since I have nothing of substance to add to the rest of this thread, let me be a bit nit-picky: it's "es ergibt keinen Sinn", not "es macht keinen Sinn" (though so many people use this false translation from the English "to make sense" that most of them don't even realize anymore it's incorrect).

Level did same thing

Level airlines cancelled my flight ParIs to NYC. Said flight will be refunded or flight credit. Waited a month; they now said sorry your flight was cancelled due to covid19 and we are not obligated to refund.. Imagine that crap. Here is their reasoning below

After analyzing your case we inform you that according to the information registered in our databases your flight was affected by circumstances beyond the companys control.

We regret to inform you that, in accordance with EC Regulation 261/2004, you are notentitled to compensation. Some factors -such as adverse weather conditions, strikes, diversions, bird strikes, runway closures, etc.- are completely beyond the companys control.

In consequence, we regret to inform you that, according to the Community Passenger Protection Regulations, your case does not correspond any type of economic compensation.

So, the TLDR version is that OP used a debit card to purchase a ticket he couldn't afford, canceled the flight early when there was no guarantee of a refund, then initiated a chargeback (which was denied) after repeated confirmation of a refund in progress? And it's the airline's fault that he didn't wait for them to cancel and didn't read or post on FT before canceling his ticket?

I lost the chargeback on something LH made up that is completely irrelevant to me or my booking. Good luck with that in court!
Well, I don't hestitate taking LH there and I have already proceeded with step 1.
Having recorded proof just feels great. In fact, I might call LH just for fun tomorrow to get another recorded call.
I love being a pain in the ... and a time-waster, since they are that to me.

So eat your heart out.

Don't go CC Dispute road. Only if you paid with Amex!

LH declined mine falsely. They just made some irrelevant BS up about denied boarding when I cancelled for a refund since all flights to Mainland China could be cancelled. Go to court if you have the option.
LH still owes me money and confirm I will get them, but not when. Could take to end of the year she said the 12th time I called.

So, you have no choice but to lend LH money for what might be a year. LH owes me like 2.500€ in total.
But after that you can sue (but begin with contacting LH about it) them for your interest (I know people who did and got like 3-600€ money/voucher)

Well, I am never flying LH again unless it's impossible and the only option.
I might not be their best customer but at least I spend 10.000€ on airfares every year at LH It's something and I know some people who will avoid LH as well in the nearest future.

I am not in the business of giving interest-free loans to airlines and I am considering filing a complaint against LH with DOT. Does anyone have any experience whether such action might jiggle something loose?
I am at 12 weeks today!

They are not doing refunds and they will just blame it on the "backlog".
However, other big sites like AirBnB, Formula 1 events, hotels and much more. They refund your money within 48 hours but with airlines, you have to wait 1 year.

It's called interest-free loans! We all love those..

LH technically didn't decline your chargeback. LH has just lodged a representment charge. You can fight and dispute that representment charge.

I told everyone that Lufthansa make up these nonsense stories do deny your chargeback.
People just started calling me names, and telling me that I am stupid or whatever.

It doesn't even matter if they are truth or false, they just make something up which I said. It's not even relevant to your booking. It has happened, not only to me but several others as well. Sadly my booking was with Revolut and they won't do anything. I am cancelling my account there for SUREEEE after this is over. Never putting any money into Revolut again.

I have applied for a law suite against LH according to a insolvency law since they have to refund money within 7 days. (And yes, while I do understand the circumstances my case was probably one of the first bookings since it involved Mainland China). I have been waiting well over 3 months now for my refund.
It's not very easy to process against an airline outside your "living" country but we have enforcements that deal with this, it just costs some money.

I have recorded phonecalls with LH which I intend to use as "evidence" or whatever they may need to proceed.

Have a nice day! Hope it works out for everyone.

We will see where this takes us. First time I am trying this road so I have no idea.

Be lucky that Citi has "not closed" your case as Revolut did. They simply just bought everything Lufthansa said and told me I should contact the law enforcement in my country to proceed against the merchant. Revolut won't do anything to dispute what LH "said and made up".

Yeah. Now the rest comes..

I posted this like 1 month ago and I was being called an idiot, that I cancelled myself, that I did something wrong and lots of bad things.

I also wrote that lot of people will experience what I went trough.

I was probably one of the first in the world to experience this Lufthansa experiment....

Still waiting for my refund since February.
Last update is that I should have it by the end of June.

Lufthansa = Never again. I am going OneWorld.

Just a comparison between Airlines (refund timeline for me).

Norwegian Airlines (Cancelled trip 11th of June, got email saying they cancelled my flight. Did a refund request same day).
Money back in my bank account 16th of June! (that is just 3 working days from cancelled flight to money back in my account, AMAZING!)
Five Stars +++++

American Airlines
(Asked for a refund 7th of April and I got my money back the 16th of April. 7 working days.
++++

Scandinavian Airlines
1 trip cancelled 2nd of March, that is almost 4 months ago. Still nothing in my bank.
1 trip cancelled 17th of March, so 3 months ago. Still nothing in my bank.
(I am SAS Diamond and it doesn't help a tiny bit).
+

Lufthansa
Cancelled trip 17th of February. So waiting time is now over 4 months. For a lot of money as well! (First Class booking)
Ongoing "second charge-back" since the first one was denied falsely by BS explanation from Lufthansa.
Latest info from Lufthansa, was that wait until the end of June and you will have the money. That is just another lie, of course but still.
I will never fly Lufthansa again in the nearest at least 5 years to come. All these lies and BS will take long time for me to forget.

What are even laws for if you don't have to follow them. Pathetic.

We are all in the same boat. Been lending 2.5k€ to Lufthansa since mid-February. Also First Class.
And like 1.500€ to Scandinavian Airlines since early March.

After this if over (if ever) I am going to sue Lufthansa for 100€ per every month they have held my money hostage.
Not sue in court but I will tell them that I want 100€ per month in vouchers or they can forget about my bookings in the future.

Norwegian Airlines, world class. Refunded me within 5-6 days from cancellation.
They will get my European bookings from now on, China involved or not.
Also BA since they seemed to treat people decent.

What Lufthansa is doing is downright disgusting and someone should do time behind bars for this.

My flight to EZE in early October has been cancelled.
Does anyone know how long EZE will be cut from the schedule?

Amazing, another 6 months waiting for 2 more First Class Tickets.
Haven't been refunded from the booking I cancelled in mid-February!

Luckily Qatar matched my SAS Diamond to Platinum so I will go One World from now on.
Now Lufthansa owes me about 8.000€. Feels great. Hope I get the money before 2025.
