Avios were okay until AMEX worsened the transfer ratio. Have to wait for transfer bonuses for that to make sense now but it wasuch better in the past.

Etihad can also be redeemed for flights operated by AA. Today, there are transfer bonuses to both BA and EY.

Essentially my favorite transfer program is KF and AMEX has never offered a transfer bonus to KF in their entire existence.

SQ is pursuing a different model. Rather than partner with one or two card issuers and offer promotions, they have signed on with everyone:

  • American Express
  • Diners Club
  • Chase
  • Citi
  • HSBC

To expand on transferring US-based points to non-US FF programs and redeeming for US domestic flights, this has the additional advantage that the points transfer does not incur a US excise tax.

Virgin Atlantic is also a transfer partner of everyone and still provides AMEX with transfer bonuses. In fact, they just offered a 30% bonus earlier this year.

Agreed, my wife and I both met the minimum spend organically and I have since closed my account. She will close hers prior to the AF due date. I was planning on keeping the card, however how the whole process was handled put a bad taste in my mouth, so I cancelled. I actually made money on this deal with my 2-$100 AA gift cards and the refund of my AF. Add in the 100,000 points and it was a steal.

Again, I would still have the card had they not handled the process so poorly. Losing a single customer is not good business, so I disagree with Mia's assumption. Especially the situation they find themselves in after losing the Costco contract.

Costco and JB. I'm crossing my fingers they will lose SPG too. I like to see bad companies get decimated.

We made some money, too, with the $200 airline rebate - Amex was really stupid to make customers mad enough to cancel. My husband has been a cardholder of various versions of personal and business gold & platinum cards for almost 15 years, but now that he's sitting on such a big negative MR balance, they'll never get his business again. Not even with this new mystery card that we're supposed to be discussing in this thread.

Does HSBC have a fifth transferable points program? Or do you just mean that HSBC issues an SQ card as such?

Was wondering the same. I've never heard about transferring HSBC points to any issuer.

In the USA HSBC Premier MasterCard has three transfer partners $1 = 1 point = 1 mile, and there are earning and transfer bonuses. The earning bonuses are typically capped at a low level.

I'm starting to believe that changes are coming sooner rather than later. It seems like everyone's upgrade offers have disappeared over the last couple days, mine included.

I noticed that too, I had a 50k upgrade offer (PRG to Plat) that I was sitting on and it went away in the last several days.
