Back when AA was still in both T-3 and T-4 and security wasn't so bad, I used to make the walk rather than wait for the airside bus, which as a lot longer as it went across the whole front side of TBIT.

The big reason to want the airside connection is to avoid having to go through security again.

Particularly since the stop for the shuttle bus sits in the middle between the end of TBIT and the start of T4. Moreover, the distance is about 100 feet between the two buildings to begin with.

Agreed.

One "security" experience per trip is more than enough.

Thanks! I never knew that. I just walk between the two terminals.

Arrive early for an AA flight out of T4, check in luggage, walk over to TBIT for a DAILY GRILL meal, walk back. I used to do that all the time. Now DrQ* is retired and can drop me off closer to flight time.

*I told my husband he is "MrQ", and he requested that I use his proper PhD title. Thus: DrQ from now on.

He sounds pretty assertive for someone who is married to Y-cabin royalty.

I often sit outside on the upper level between the two terminals, and watch the planes take off towards the west. That is, until someone plops themselves down and lights up a cigarette.

This thread is for the discussion of the airside connector which is being built between LAX T4 and TBIT. General questions about transferring at LAX have been and will continue to be moved to the relevant thread linked below:

Is there any real date clarity on this project yet?

OK I've looked through this thread and I can't find for sure whether anyone really knows the current estimated completion date for the connector. (Lots of discussion of healthy walks, and I'm cool with that coming home but not so sure on the way out as I'd rather not reclear security unnecessarily for a trip I am planning in early 2015. )

Most of what has been said though makes it sound like this is no way happening before spring 2015. Is that correct?

Many thanks. ^

"Early September" was what I've seen most recently, but it's an airport, so that could move back, Eagle Club was supposed to open in January after all...

Here is a newsletter from two weeks ago that says "3rd Quarter 2015" on page 8:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...ShgXhiDJGoDIDQ

As it's an airport construction project (in Los Angeles, no less - so two things going for it), I'll be happy if it opens in the first half of 2016.

Thanks, PainCorp and FWAAA - both extremely helpful (although a door slam on my hopes). I'll share your pessimism about the first deadline being met in any case - and even that would torpedo me.

Now I have to decide if the lure of CX is worth another trip through TSA - and of course the added chance of a missed flight. Maybe, maybe not. But FT came through for me again, and quick. Thanks.

The "Connector Walkway Roof" was due for completion end of November 2014 and "New Interline Baggage Carousel Operational" in early March.

More mention (but no dates) here: LAWA Construction news, Aigust 2014
Nice post! Thanks... ^

Actually, there is a date. On the map at the bottom of page 2 of that PDF, it says "T4-TBIT Connector Complete 4/20/2016."

It is possible the airside connector could be in use prior to that.

The whole project includes an integrated baggage handling facility - if you look at the Project milestone plan from last November which had final completion down for December had other milestones noted before then.

It's now out 4 months from that and if you shift that plan out by those four months, other possibilities may be extrapolated.

So no airside connection until everything is done in 2016 or so?

I initially thought that may be a possibility, but am thinking the text may relate only to the walkway above the mezzanine. The exterior part of the connector sits on the new luggage facility - I really cannot discern for sure.

A four month delay to the date as per the link in post 71 would indeed mean 2016.
