Hopefully, the hotels will grant the space-available members favoring diamonds first and then golds, and distinguinshing amongst the diamonds and golds based on their nights and stay activity with Hilton. This way, a loyal diamond with hundreds of lifetime nights with Hilton will get highest priority for that upgrade and get preference over a credit card diamond who rarely gives Hilton business; and a gold with a lot of stay activity will get the upgrade over a credit card gold that rarely gives Hilton business.
I am looking forward to this brand and am excited about the concept.

Thanks Erin! This is very helpful. I am glad to see something done in the bonus points space to provide a little more recognition to Diamond members.

I don't see how they could possibly administer this on an unspoken basis. They would have to create an explicit "Gold Lite" tier for card elites. And then someone would want them to take lifetime nights into account, and someone else would want them to factor in lifetime spend. And then it all gets too confusing, and much too much ado when I can't tell if I'm in an "upgraded" room most of the time anyway.

Points earning is already revenue-based, of course. It would be interesting if elite benefits became revenue-based also. Spend $20,000 a year and you're Diamond. I doubt that would make many people very happy.

Just ran across these if anyone is interested; floorplans and renderings for Canopy Ithaca.
I'm interested in how this brand will shape up. The press release makes it sound kind of like a more upscale homewood or embassy - free breakfast, and then an evening reception with local craft beer/wine/etc. tastings and such.

Yeah, guess I was just thinking of a evening reception event which is a common theme in Embassy and Homewood. Certainly aimed a bit at the Portlandia crowd, though ironically I'll be curious to see how the brand goes over because a lot of their target audience might think of a Hilton property as "too corporate" for their interests. The whole local/artsy thing has become pretty mainstream lately, though, so maybe they're aiming for the hipster-lite types?

Comparisons to Aloft may be right on the mark: An under-construction Aloft in Washington, DC was converted to a Canopy.
The project went through super-detailed approval processes before the brand change, so the exterior, number of rooms, building systems, and amenities provided (i.e., "select service") will remain the same as what was approved for Aloft. The interior layout might differ slightly, though -- depends on which building permits have already been pulled.
Aloft is a "select-service" brand, originally introduced as a competitor to HGI and Courtyard.
People are more complicated than that. Granted, Hilton has some very indistinct brands, but there's space for a hotel that's priced like an HGI but feels different -- you say "less uniform," I say "less boring."

My First Canopy Stay
Hard to believe this thread is as old as it is.
I ignored the brand for years as I wasn't sure what it was and the price point never seemed compelling.
It seems to be overpriced on revenue and reward redemption.
Was in Scottsdale and took a night there and was delighted.A guest on social media was complaining the bed was too soft
Once I saw the reviews were overwhelmingly positive I booked right away.
Thought the stay was great and the bed very good but that Canopy properties seem severely overpriced for what it is.
Otherwise its good modern architecture meets limited service
In my own opinion its the first lifestyle brand that has it mostly right in over a decade that many of the best brands have failed to accomplish
That said 500 dollars a night or 60,000 points there are many options out there.I stayed at the former Ritz Carlton in Phoenix
for 35,000 points or had the option of 200 dollars a night revenue.
In Philadelphia Canopy was asking 80k a night what 5 star properties are getting like the Waldorf Astoria Conrad etc
I booked the 4 star Hyatt with better gym and full breakfast for 12k in HH points that would be 24 to 30 k in points
Love the brand but they aren't competitive enough.Hope to stay with them more in 2022
