I don't see how they could possibly administer this on an unspoken basis. They would have to create an explicit "Gold Lite" tier for card elites. And then someone would want them to take lifetime nights into account, and someone else would want them to factor in lifetime spend. And then it all gets too confusing, and much too much ado when I can't tell if I'm in an "upgraded" room most of the time anyway.
