I would certainly add to that argument. Indeed, from my experience at least, Alaska's BOB selection - especially the hot casserole type dishes - is better than anything offered by AA, DL or UA.
As to United's cheeseburger, here's an example I was served on a recent luncheon flight between Ft. Lauderdale and Newark. A bit overboard on the cheese but otherwise not bad. I think Alaska's is better though. The stuff in the bowl is cream of potato soup.

That said, while that particular presentation looks gross, I wouldn't judge an entire airline's catering on a one-time picture.

Plenty of people judge Alaska's catering by some of the one-time pictures here. That said, I'm sure, like Alaska, United has plenty of hits and misses. This hamburger appears to be a miss for sure. Alaska's BOB burger looks way better than UA's First Class offering - except I do like the pickles, lettuce and tomato UA gives you.

"Evening Snack"
Last evening's presentation was reminiscent of a recent post by another FT member and seemed to be a cut-back in the level of service I've usually encountered on AS.
The lead FA handed out a fork and knife wrapped in a small paper napkin, then passed a plate that held a stone-cold bit of chicken (?pigeon?) breast with grill marks that served the sole purpose of pretending the piece of fowl had actually once been placed on a grill. Also on the plate was a small bit of mesclun and a little tub of salad dressing.
That's it. No warm food. No tray. No salt & pepper. Not even a Seattle Chocolate to soften the blow and give a bit of dignity to the dining experience.
For an F meal, that one deserves an F. At least they could warm up the poultry a bit and hand out chocolate. Lots of chocolate.

AS #575 - SAN-PDX
May 3, 2013
Scheduled Departure 2:40 PM
Scheduled Arrival 5:13 PM
First Class
Afternoon Snack
Warm risotto with spinach and peas, accompanied by a small spinach salad with vegetables and balsamic vinaigrette. And a Seattle Chocolate, of course.

This flavorful snack was miles above the arid-frigid-chicken-of-the-sky that was served on the 4/30/13 AS #574 PDX-SAN segment (see post #102).

It was anything but a lunch. At least the SEA-ANC segment I got a decent meal marketed as a lunch which was a pastrami sandwich on a hearty bread

I had the continental breakfast. It consisted of a scone-ish sweet thing, pineapple, orange, melon, red seedless grapes, and a piece of strawberry. There was an egg/beef option and a quiche option in addition to the continental breakfast.

The real worst ever meal was served on AS 248 from LAX to PVR on Mother's Day. Reheated white rice with spininch and peas in it--served in two small mounds, with a salad . Maybe, if the Alaska Airline's "chef" served this to the Executive Management Team, the passengers in the First Class Cabin could avoid these experiments.
If the goal was to increase onboard revenue, they were successful, as 7 of the 12 fisrt cabin passengers purchases main cabin meals.

(And if you have enough left over to require you to host a SEA DO, I don't think any of us would complain...

PDX-ANC
5/4/13
Depart 6:15PM
Arrive 8:50PM
Evening Snack in First
Warm roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. And a Seattle Chocolate.

This was quite tasty, and it was a nice sized portion for an evening departure. Not quite a meal, but it didn't leave one hauntingly hungry like some of the "snacks."

This one is far worse (ETA - and I've had it. There was a bit of ...?. It's served on flights where there is no meal choice.)
On the whole UA's meals in F exceed AS's on virtually every flight length
My last EWR-SEA on UA had:
Warm nuts with drink service
Shrimp appetizer
Full salad
Tender, good-sized steak with mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli
Ice cream sundaes with choice of toppings
On shorter flights UA often has:
Soup
Salad
Entree
Baked Cookie
While UA's food is less than it once was, AS has come down a lot further
In fairness, the rice "risotto" dish is probably AS's worst, and there are some more tasty ones. However food quantity is definitely small.
