Our bid was accepted! BOS>CPH tomorrow, we bid $600 on a minimum $460. Given the unchanging seat availability, I think a lower bid might’ve gotten us there, but we padded the number.
Hell of a thrill, seeing that notification pop 24 hours before boarding. |

Now.. this is interesting... my flight is in 8 days... I went into my bookings to try and bid (I saw the bid upgrade last week) and now i apparently can't bid anymore. I chatted with their Customer Service team and the response was: "On the website it does not show the bidding button, so please do the upgrade at the airport.I have checked by myself on the website, and it is not available yet for a bidding."... i couldn't get an answer on why....
any idea guys??? ps: expert flyer shows a bunch of open seats both in premium economy and in business... |
[QUOTE=Nehedeezy;35823908]Hi Everybody,
first post here, just super new, so please excuse if I have some stupid questions. I have to fly to Tokyo from CPH in January for work related reasons and I am now considering whether I book ANA or SAS. Unfortunately, we have to fly Economy, which sucks... But as I am Eurobonus gold, I was thinking to book SAS and just upgrade myself for the flights. I have never done the bidding system though and might have a few stupid questions: a) If my understanding is correct I can either bid points or cash. So, I can only bid points if I want to and no cash, right? Or will this crush my chances? b) You guys got any estimations what a reasonable bid for Economy -> Business is per flight? I am actually considering whether I have even enough points :D Thanks a lot! CHeers[ if it helps at all, my flight from Ewr to Stockholm has a minimum points bid to business of 33k miles or 460 dollars. SAS are leaving star alliance next summer I believe so it may be a good chance to use your points. Not sure the minimum they would ask to Tokyo but wanted to share that info so you can get an idea of their requirement. |
I can't find the table with basic point earnings for cash upgrade bids anymore. The web page only has an unspecfied "it depends on class and where you travel" text. Does anybody has the link?
Also the manage-your-booking page on sas.dk no longer seems to display the EB points you will earn. I wonder whether they are preparing for new earning tables and can't keep the side-effects away from us. |
Won biz class upgrade bid for 2 people on SFO - CPH flight today from go light economy ticket. Bid $600, which was considered medium. Minimum was $500 and anything below $600 was weak. Expert flyer showed about 4-5 seats labeled “Premium only” and the rest were occupied or blocked last night.

Mine is consistently showing as $790 as the minimum bid. I wonder why yours is so much lower

Cph bos tomrrow. Was in plus , bid 1950 dkk for business for 4 persons. Minimum bid 1940 dkk. Upgrade confirmed 24 hr before departure

Flown SAS SFO to CPH on 12/19/2023. Original tickets are SAS Go Smart (Economy) bought with points through Chase. Expertflyer showed two seats available. As I needed both, I bid $800 with a $460 minimum. They upgrade 6 hours before take off. Got the seats.
Going back CPH - SFO 12/30/2023 was less competitive with 14 seats available a day before departure (upgrades come in about 24 hours before departure for Europe-US leg ). Bid $560 with a $460 minimum. Got 2 seats. I saw 7 seats still available after my upgrade cleared, so probably could have gotten them for $460 or just over. By the time of the flight there was only 1 seat available. Maybe it's possible people get upgraded later if they bid lower. But most likely they only had 7 qualifying bids (which I find a bit bizarre for a 174 economy and 56 Plus pool on a 11 hour overnight flight) and everyone else either paid at the airport or were upgraded using status. It's a tricky game and I lost a lot of bids before on other airlines, so I figured it makes sense to go a little over what your gut instinct tells you and you are still comfortable with is the way to go. Because basically trying to save an extra $100 on a business class ticket that runs between $3.3-7k is not the best strategy. My 2 cents and YMMV. |
I have a potentially interesting data point showing that the minimum bid is just a guideline, not really a hard minimum.
Booked two bonus tickets for CPH-HND in Plus. I would have happily booked Business but of course bonus tickets of that service class were not available. Minimum bid was 29000 each for an upgrade to Business. Around one month before departure the minimum was lowered to 22000, and I placed a bid for 22002 points with Gold status multiplier. The minimum was then raised again to 29000 a few days later, placing my previous bid well below the minimum. I didn't withdraw my bid and I didn't bid an higher amount of points. I was notified 24hrs before boarding time that my bid was accepted. As a comparison, the cash minimum bid was 7060 NOK at the same time when the points minimum bid was 29000. |
BOS- CPH on New Years Eve. Bid minimum 1940 DKK from Plus to Biz for party of 4 . Successful. C cabin roughjy 50% load. Our Plus seats remained unused, and Plus cabin 1/3 full. Econ cabin roughly 75% full.

29k EB Points as minimum for Plus to Business o/w is insane
|
Looking to upgrade from economy to business next Saturday on a flight from CPH to BOS.
SAS wants 10,5k SEK for that as a minimum. Right now there are 19 of 22 seats free. i think I will keep my economy seat for that price 🙃 |
Hi all.... it's been a while since I was active on here but I popped in to ask a quick question.
I have a short intra-EU flight tomorrow which I upgraded from revenue Go to Plus with points. With the new program does this mean no status points? or status points for my go ticket instead of Plus? I get it, it seemed too good a deal to upgrade on points and earn most of those back |
