Baggage Allowance on SK IC code-share with BT

I was pricing out a flight in economy at the end of August from TLL-IAD. The best price was offered by BT, with TLL-RIX-CPH-IAD routing. The first two legs are on BT metal, while the CPH-IAD leg is sold as BT6152 which is a code-share for SK925. I wasn't even aware BT did code-shares with SK on IC flights.

Anyway, I'll be traveling with a lot of luggage so the bag allowance I usually receive as SK*G is important. But this whole issue is hard to figure out when it's a code-share. Here's what I found on BT's site:

On Intercontinental flights (e.g. flights to USA or Canada) certain number of bags with certain weight limit is allowed free of charge. If the ticket contains Intercontinental flight(s) then airBaltic baggage fees are not applicable. Number of bags and weight limit allowed free of charge is determined by the transporting carrier of the Intercontinental flight. We kindly ask you to contact airBaltic call centre for detailed information about free baggage allowance for your itinerary.
I emailed BT customer service but based on what I've read in other threads, it may be a while before I get a response. Any thoughts on the baggage allowance? I'm EBG but only a standard Baltic Miles member.

Well, if I read what it says, IC operating carrier allowance applies.
In partucular, SK allowance to US in economy from last month is 1 piece/23kg, eco extra and business 2 pieces/32kgs each.

As a pure speculation/guess, you may have some luck to use EBG allowance on the trip ex US, when you will be checking in with SAS. On outbound trip with first 2 sectors by BT - I wouldn't count on it, but anyway please post what BT will reply to you.

Ok no answer from email so I called them. Here's their answer:

1st bag is free, up to 23kg

Second bag is 15 EUR/kg per leg, and 130 USD.

So in my routing, there are 3 legs, so that comes to 45 EUR/kg + 130 USD.

No special preference if EBG (note SK925 is being sold as a BT flight number). I didn't think to ask about Baltic Miles as I don't have status on them.

So even thought BT is a lot cheaper than the other options for the ticket part, when I add in luggage costs, I'm better off paying more and flying *A and taking advantage of the extra free luggage allowance as an EBG.

Are you sure the fee is applied as per segment? Very, very odd. What would make sense is per direction. That their disclaimer is that you would also have to pay the €15 on the homebound.
In reality my guess is that for your specific ticket you will have to pay €15 for extra kgs on the outbound but will be allowed EBG allowance for the homebound due SK check in.

Yeah I was quite surprised too so I repeated it back for verification. Note I was only booking a one-way ticket, so I don't think there would have been confusion about the pricing per direction.

So it looks like LOT will be getting my business as they have a slightly higher fare but I get baggage benefits as an EBG.

Extra kilos at BT is per segment. Extra bag charge is per one-way. Extra bag is not increasing overall kilo allowance, so if you are over 20 kgs (on European flights in economy) you have to pay extra per kilo, doesn't matter if you already paid for 3 or 4 bags This is a true Ryanair style.

Just wondering about this IC BT codeshare, can you earn any BalticMiles or EB points there?

p.s. have you tried to ask BT for your EBG status match? In the past success was depending whether you travelled BT before (some considerable amount), not sure what is the situation now.

I didn't get that far in terms of point earnings. My assumption is since it's a BT flight number, I'd only be eligible for Baltic Miles (on the CPH-IAD flight).

I thought about the status match option. I haven't flown BT that much in the past, but also I believe the status match might take a while to be approved (from what I heard). Rather than wait on that, I just booked a flight on LOT (TLL-WAW-JFK-DCA) and I know I have extra luggage allowance that way.

BT on their web says codeshares are excluded from earnings... It well could be that BT codeshare on SAS IC is neither eligible for EB nor BT miles.
