This week's best deal for H&R block seems to be at Target. $45 for Deluxe Federal & State. Minus $10 Manufacturer coupon in last weekend's paper. Minus $10 Target coupon which can be printed from their web site. A $10 gift card is given with the purchase. And there is a $10 rebate.

For those who prefer miles (or in this case Southwest RR 2.0 points) you can get 1000 points (valued at $16.70) by using the link from the WN promo email for Turbotax. I will post later.

My accountant was a pleasant old lady that passed away late last year, she did my taxes for years, so have no one to do them this year.
I am thinking of doing them online through TT rather than going to some overpriced tax place. I see reviews for TT to be polarized, it is either loved or hated. oh what to do? |
TT
How difficult is your return? If truly a novice look at last year's return and see how many forms were required. That said, TT is very user friendly.

My experience with Turbo Tax
Here's what I did this year with Turbo Tax:
-Within my Citi Thank You credit Card statement, one of those mini-advertisements between expense lines was a 35% off Turbotax. -I clicked that link, and saw that each Turbo Tax item was indeed reduced by 35%. -I started my application, and proceeded towards the end, and clicked save. -I revisited Turbo Tax WITHOUT going through Citi again, and the 35% discount still applied. -I logged off, and then relogged into Turbo Tax through my Chase UR portal (8%) discount. As there didn't seem to be any restrictions about discount codes or rates, I believe my tax expenses for filing will get the 8% bonus. I clicked through the final steps and paid for the federal and state filings (state did not get the 35% discount). ++ If you are due a refund, do NOT choose to have them withdraw funds from your refund to pay for the Turbo Tax fees. That's an unnecessary $30 they charge you! Just pay with your credit card, and save a TON of money. |
Bump. It's that time of the year.

Costco has TurboTax on sale through Jan 29th as mentioned before. The
Deluxe Fed+E-file+State....$40 with $10 coupon. Best deal around that I have found. TT Current price at Amazon is $48 for Deluxe and $64 for Premier. |
Just a warning, I discovered that turbo tax has been overcalculating AMT for me for at least the past 3 years that I've checked. IT would behoove you to validate the figures on form 6251 against the worksheet in the instructions.
