Maybe a slight diversion: from Mileage Mall, you can see the FF programs which will give you miles for purchases at Dell.com, where you can buy/download tax programs.

At least I think it works . . . I attempted this route with a purchase of a download of H&R Block Tax program last week for USAir miles. Nothing I see in the restrictions makes me think it does not work. Too soon for the miles to post at this point.

One advantage of Vanguard's TurboTax discount is that it applies to the State Version as well.. most of the other discount schemes are federal versions only.

I would do a search on Dell before buying anything from them and actually expecting to get miles. Several threads here about how bad they are. Actually, I've never seen one comment where some did get any miles from them.

If you decide to download (as I do since I want to work offline and only upload the final returns for filing) the CapOne, BofA and Vanguard discounts are all the same: Federal and State Deluxe is $44.96 and Premier is $67.46 - includes Fed eFile.

Not much of a "discount" when you consider that Amazon is currently selling the same download for $39 (CD is $42) and $61 (CD is $64).

A friendly bump for all those procrastinators out there. :)

Just got an email from Capital One with the 25% discount. Here's the link.

FWIW, I got both the discount and Delta SkyMiles (through skymilesshopping.com) this past year. And I didn't even use my Cap One card to pay for it.

I don't have the coupon with me, but anyone who uses Costco may want to check the Costco flyer. We just got our flyer in the mail a few days ago. There's a coupon for $10 off TurboTax that runs from January 5 until the end of January.

The Home & Business s/w is $79xx less $10 coupon at Costco.

The trouble with the discounts you see online are that they charge quite a bit extra for the state s/w. Then the total is usually more than Costco's price.

Here's what the Costco coupon offers:

Valid Jan 5 - Jan 29, 2012
$10 off with coupon, limit 2

TurboTax Deluxe with State, Deluxe No State, Premier, OR Home & Business

Also available at Costco.com

On the back, underneath the bar codes, it shows these numbers:
2 000000 001234

-----

If you don't receive the Costco flyer in the mail, sometimes it is possible to ask for one in the store.

Prices at costco were not too impressive, $70 for the Home Premier (before coupon). Compare with last year's amazon prices, and the often impressive specials at best buy and office stores.

Tax Software

Fidelity and Vanguard offer good discounts to their clients, as do other banks and brokerages.
Most offer basic and deluxe version of Turbotax for free web based returns with free federal filing.

I was able to download Turbotax Deluxe for free from Vanguard, due to type of account. Fidelity does only allow online returns for free. Bank of America also has discounted versions.

Try Googgling it.

Mom bought TT Basic at Staples yesterday
for $24.99 with a $5 gift card on top of that,
for total out of $19.99.
