Just checked this evening, and they have $100 Virtual Visa (Simon Gift Cards) for 2500 points. Might as well go for it if you have enough.
|
I got an email from MCR the other day. They seem to be gearing up for the summer Olympics-which is in August I think. Maybe they'll break out some big rewards then.

Nah, I don't care who uses them, but for some reason, it's a sticking point for me that they get acknowledged by the people who use them (not for thanks but so that other people don't waste their time).

Could even be someone who is not a member of FT but just lurking, which would definitely not acknowledge using the code. Or can non-members not get into the SPAM forum?

Trinkets or something of value? FF miles and hotel points? Anyone have insight?
We can always hope for miles or hotel points, but the problem is that there are too many MCR accounts full of points. Anything of value disappears almost instantly. |

Well, there is a very easy wasy for Coke and Delta, et. al to stop much of the frenzied redemptions, as well as limit the number of improper redemptions that end up on E-bay:
Put a cap on the number of redemptions one can make in a 24 hour period, in the same way that they place a cap on the number of codes that one can redeem in any one 24 hour period. I think a cap of no more than two redemptions of the same item in any 24 hour period would be more than sufficient for most of those who collect these caps. Now, I know that some of you who comment on this thread will scream and cry that this is unfair, but given that the recent Delta awards lasted a couple of days, you likely would have been able to redeem at least 6 awards during that time-frame, while yours truly was only able to redeem one. I think more people fall in my category of collectors than do yours and I see this as a simple and egalitarian solution to the current ridicuolous inabilty of Coke to have a sustained period of useful awards. |
A somewhat decent idea, but they could do what priority points did at the end and just audit when rewards hit a certain level.
I am sure that DL could validate the certificate numbers with MCR and validate the names. If "Spike Lee" redeemed MCR's yet "John Smith" entered the code on DL there would be a problem. They would need a limit, like after 5 they check. If "John Smith" was on MCR and "John Smith" also was on the Delta account, or something close, everything is good. This would stop Ebay sales as the buyer/seller certainly don't know each others names before the sale and even sometimes after the sale. A wonderful device called a computer could audit this very quickly and if there is any funny business they just suspend the accound and investigate. Delta still keeps the $'s that MCR paid, the person that violated the T&S of Skymiles is investigated and dealt with.

Delta miles through MCR worth it?
Just out of curiosity, are the Skymiles through MCR worth it? I mean isn't it really hard to get a ticket with just 25,000 miles, so if you really need 50K miles, are 850 all that many?
And am I right ot assume that these are just SkyMiles and not MedallionMiles (for status)??? |
Correct, they are just SKyMiles, no Medallion status assocaited with them.
|
Skymiles is actually the term you would use to refer to any Delta miles accumulated. Most FT'rs refer to the status miles as MQM (Medallion® Qualification Miles) miles. You are correct that MCR miles and most miles earned outside of BIS (Butt-In-Seat) miles are bonus miles, although Delta has been generous in giving status miles for other things, usually through special promotions, including recent incentives for car rentals and charge cards. Even though most airlines charge double for the standard award for a single roundtrip that you want on particular days, there are still good trips available for standard awards if you are flexible on dates and plan way in advance. I obtained roundtrips to Cancun in December for 30,000 miles each for Mrs. Outoftown and myself. I've gone to Hawaii and Europe on DL standard award amounts. Delta has a promotion going on now to earn 1000 bonus miles from each one of their partners, up to 25,000 miles. See link at https://www.delta-offers.com/offers/go/2008partnerbonus
YMMV, outoftown |
trips to the Olympics are already showing up as prizes in the contests.
My guess is the new program starts either Feb. 1 or in connection with the Super Bowl on Sunday. So I wouldn't burn and points, just yet. |
