This. As with any reward program that offers choices for rewards, people should, and do tailor their redemptions to their needs. There is no one size fits all redemption option for everyone, when they have choices. Some people will prefer the best value, others will prefer what they can use easily.

That's my point. Amazon gift cards may be more useful for some people, but they do not provide the best value when comparing the various redemption options that are available.

Amazon is more useful for many people, as it sells a vast, vast, vast array of goods. A lot of online stores excel in one particular niche, but Amazon sells practically everything. And, it excels in shipping and customer service, as well as in price competition (not on every single item, but on many).
