Radisson Golden Sands Malta
What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold
Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Golden Sands Malta
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room, for sure did not get an upgrade, although the room did have a small kitchenette which didn't make up for loud noise from nearby campsite or the view of barren land. Could see the sea if I leaned over the balcony a bit. Was on level 7.
Did you receive elite benefits?
Welcome gift - chocolates and water
How are the rooms?
Most seem to have kitchenettes as its a timeshare property. A bit dated to be honest, very 1995 feel.
What was good and what was bad?
Good - Friendly staff, great weather, nice pool and beach area.
Cleaning staff failed to replace a robe one day and after calling for a robe it was brought while out for the day and left a bottle of local red wine. Nice touch there (was a bottle you could buy in their little shop for 12 euro but would be 2-3 in a local supermarket). Luckily this was a day where I showered after hitting the beach.
Bad - Had to wait until 3pm for check in (arrived around 2), however they did offer juice and tea.
Rooms-dated
Location, far from most everything except a few restaurants, 2 off site and ~3 on site.
Beach- lots of kelp and always some TRASH in the sea, why is no one cleaning this up?!
Restaurants- 15% at the cafe, but NOT the ~3 real restaurants/ beach/pool food. Why mention it at all?
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
4 nights for 88,000 points total (credit card last night free x2) was good value. I would return if rates are competitive.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
meh it was alright.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked business class/ superior, no upgrade.
Did you receive elite benefits?
Welcome chocolate and water.
How are the rooms?
Modern, clean, no complaints.
What was good and what was bad?
Good - Location is excellent. Hotel is fresh and modern.
Bad - Arrived around 1pm, said check in was not possible until 3 (did not EVEN ASK for name to check status), mentioned gold perk said no, came back around 2:20, said the same thing, came back at 2:58 and was checked in. At check in was told to wait ~10 min as room was not ready? Was given vouchers for two Heinkens/wine to wait, after about 20 minutes was given the keys. Poor first impression.
Cleaning people left a bag of trash in the closet after first night. Weird.
Only ONE robe given? whats the deal with 2 people 1 robe situations.
No notification if hotel participated in 15% food discount.
This hotel blocks AWARD NIGHTS, which is AGAINST the terms and conditions.

2 nights for 50,000 points total (credit card last night free) was OK value. For some reason this hotel can be 80 euros a night while we were there, which is cheap for norway. I WILL return and see the northern lights.
Transportation? taxi from airport was 200 NOK, 160 to airport. Bus showed 80/each per direction...

Radisson Blu Hamburg, Germany
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked* standard room, got Standard
* BRG
Did you receive elite benefits?
None, nothing, zip (or does a high floor count?).
How are the rooms?
Got a standard room on 23nd floor which has nice view but besides that very basic, although the room was newly renovated. Interesting enough in a different style (a bit like Scandic/Ikea, light woods, wooden floor, silver, white and grey colors) than the business class and junior suite rooms (dark tiles and carpets, turquoise, blue and black colors) I stayed in before in Hamburg. Nice newly renovating bath room, no tub (which I do not need anyway). Windows, walls and even the door to the floors are sound isolated and the air condition worked cooling the room down to chilly 16°C which love for sleeping.
What was good and what was bad?
Good - Great location, clean and functional room
Bad - insane expensive breakfast with 26€ per person. As I usually only have a bagel/croissant and a coffee for breakfast I decided to opt for Starbucks around the corner. Last two times I had breakfast included in the rate and it was good but not outstanding, given the small things I eat and drink for breakfast I would never pay that money. No upgrade, no elite benefits recognized, not even bottle of free water.
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
had a good rate (about 100€) through BRG claim, so value for money was good although it might have triggered them not to dish out any additional benefits like upgrades or free breakfast I got the last two time paying the rack rate.
I will return if the rate is reasonable or I need to spend some Gold points. Lot of good options in Hamburg.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Room upgrade, fruit plate, daily fresh bottle of water, discount applied to bar purchases (even though drinks don't count anymore per T&C's), daily turndown service + chocolate
How are the rooms?
Large room, 9th floor. Tasteful modern decor to a high standard, no scratches or marks. Fantastic bed
What was good and what was bad?
Good - Clean, quiet, great WiFi. Friendly staff. 2 minutes to tram stop to city
Bad
Breakfast is one of the best in the Radisson network, but it ain't cheap 24 Euro. Concierge gets it for free but couldn't justify it otherwise.
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Absolutely, for 100 euro/night its good value

7 nights at 350k points which considering the room upgrade is excellent value since this room is normally 500 euro per night.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, received standard room as far as I can tell
Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No
Early Check In/Late Check Out - early check in yes, late check out not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No
No acknowledgement of gold status at check-in.
How are the rooms?
The room was pretty spacious. The bathroom was also spacious with separate compartment for toilet.
What was good and what was bad?
Good: The hotel was good enough, nothing to really complain about but also nothing of note.
Bad: Location not as convenient as other Radisson Blu in the area
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Booked with points. Next time I would probably book the Radisson Blu Sandton Gautrain instead since it is newer and much closer to the Gautrain station.

The room were very nice with views of the waterfront and Table mountain. There were a lot of sea gulls near the hotel and they can be noisy in the morning if you are a light sleeper.
What was good and what was bad?
Good: The service of every staff member I interacted with was great. They really make you feel genuinely welcomed.
Bad: nothing

It's now a category 7 hotels requiring 70k points for 1 night. I don't know if I would do that. I booked it when it was 50k a night & I had a free night with the credit card. 25k per night is a good deal.

- Where did you stay?
Radisson Blu Warwick Hotel, Philadelphia
- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes & NO. Hotel is modern, well appointed. The location was great as it is in/near center Philadelphia. I was not happy that I received a connecting room to a suite, that suite was full of a wedding party who was very load, early and late.
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard. Receive upgrade to 11th floor business.
- Did you receive elite benefits?
No Welcome amenity. I asked upon check in, the agent looked at me in disbelief and stated that she has been here for years and did not know what I was talking about. Upgrade and access to Lounge.
- How are the rooms?
Large and comfortable. Clean. Modern, but I got a connecting room. Loud
- What was good and what was bad?
Modern and connecting room was loud, even when I called, they were fully booked.
- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Booked using points for two nights (BOGO) at old rate. Now it is 70K or 105K for Business class room. Not worth it. Cash rates were in the $200.
Overall this hotel is modern, good location and Excellent Lounge. The best Radisson US Lounge that I have been to. Free flowing alcohol, friendly service, spacious, nice decor. But not worth the points. Worth it if you get a good cash rate and are guaranteed lounge access. My sleep experience was bad due to the connecting room and wedding party.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Park Plaza, London County Hall, UK
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked family studio, upgraded to Executive studio facing Waterloo track on high floor with expansive skyline view including "The Shard" and "Walkie Talkie", versus facing inside the building.
Did you receive elite benefits?
Room upgrade, 2 apples, 2 bottles of water (only for first night out of a 4 nights stay), and a 750ml bottle of red wine was waiting for us on our 3rd night (2nd reservation) plus discount applied to restaurant purchases.
How are the rooms?
A bed room connected to a living room with a corridor equipped with a wetbar and microwave, cabinets with dishes. Tasteful modern decor, bed is comfortable but is only a queen size.
What was good and what was bad?
Good - Clean, quiet, great view of skylinesi. Friendly staff. very good location, a lot quieter than sister property across street.
Bad
Participated the Go Green program that offers 1500 pts per night without housekeeping services but have not seen pts in account 3 weeks after stay. email to hotel has not gotten any response.
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Booked with 62.5K pts for 2 nights before devaluation. Unfortunately now it is 87.5K per night after devaluation. Unless price is very competitive, I find the brand new Staybridge (IHG property) a few bus stops away but only 10 min stroll thru a city garden from Vauxhall tube station a much better value whether on pts or in cash. (No separate living room but a good size room with a full kitchen and a king size bed. Also the excellent breakfast is included in rate.)

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country
The Mayfair London. 3 nights
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked superior room. Received superior room. I didn't see what made it a superior room.
Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade -
Not that I'm aware of
Early Check In/Late Check Out - check out Yes but only 2 hours. Refused 3 hours.
In-Room Welcome Gift - No
How are the rooms?
Not as promised. Quite worn. Stained carpet. Marks on wall and flaking paint. Shower had a lot of missing grout and was quite narrow. Toilet didn't flush at all well. TV reception was poor.
What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Location. Room was a decent size
Bad:
Hospitality and service. Pretty close to the worst hotel I have ever stayed in for this. I got the impression the hotel's vision was to milk guests for every cent. 1 coffee cup in room and 2 instant coffee sachets per day lol.
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
70K points per night. No breakfast included.
Definitely would not stay again

Booked standard room, received upgraded room (possibly a suite)

In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes, selection of chocolates
How are the rooms?
Very good, recently refurbished in the new Radisson US/Canada style. Sleep Number beds are excellent.
What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Location and condition of hotel are great.
No real negatives.
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Paid $150/night. Very good value at that price.
Edit to say that I also stayed at the Country Inn and Suites Austin on this trip. As far as I can tell I didn't get any status recognition (and to be honest I'm not sure they even had different room types to upgrade to, breakfast included anyway), so doesn't warrant its own post.
