I'm probably reading into it too much, but just making sure it's not a country-to-country courtesy.

For reference, I am flying business class DFW-DOH, then 13 hour layover before DOH-VCE on separate tickets... staying at the Oryx hotel in between, so hopefully will not have to leave the airport. We will most likely not have checked bags. If any mods see this, I apologize- I created a new thread about this yesterday, not seeing this thread first.

Hello. I need some advice.

I am arriving in DOH in F on the A380 from BKK at 10:30 PM. My flight out is 27 hours later at +2 1:30 AM to JFK in J. The flights are on one PNR on an AA award. I will not have checked bags.

I have a room at the Oryx hotel booked for the night of my arrival, and my intent is to leave the airport and go into Doha the next day (and leave my carry-on bags at the Oryx hotel). But I was reading the QR web site, and it indicates boarding passes for US bound flights are only issued up to 24 hours in advance.

If I do not have a boarding pass, and the transfer desk is unable to print me one, will I still be able to go to the Oryx hotel on the night of my arrival? Last time I transferred in Doha, I do not remember the transit security checking onward boarding passes.

The best answer is YMMV.

I transit DOH quite often.

From BKK, most of the time, we are let out and into the terminal - no security.
When I do go through security... Most of the time they scan my onward bp. Sometimes not. At least one time, I accidently gave them my original bp and got through no problem. Another time, as a test, at the automated BC security, I used my arriving BP to see what would happen; it worked just fine.

So it goes back to YMMV.

Hello, can I please check the above still holds true regarding not needing to go landside if transiting with separate tickets and no luggage? Process therefore if you dont already have a boarding pass would be to go to the transit desk to check in? Am I correct that check in would close 1 hour before departure? Thanks

Yes. But if you are suggesting you may have a short time between flights you may also wish to check in online when that opens. And if you are arriving on a QR flight, ask at your origin if they can issue your boarding pass.

Bear in mind also that if your inbound flight is delayed, your onward travel may not be protected if it is on a separate separate ticket.

Thanks. Yes understand the risks and will certainly look to do online check in should I chose this option - still debating but the alternative results in over 7 hours at the airport!

FWIW - When I have had QR to QR on separate tickets, I have always been able to get BPs all the way through at origin.

If you decide to do the longer layover, 7 hours in Doha airport is not too bad. I have done 8-9 hours many times. There are lots of things to do.

I've been reading the previous questions and helpful answers but I hope you don't mind if I ask something.
OW Emerald flying BA CW to DOH arriving 2300ish. Next day I have 1330 F with QR to MCT. separate tickets. We will have checked bags as will be in MCT for a while.

Q1; I'd like to stay at the Oryx Hotel as it's a late arrival. I know (I think) BA won't check the bags through on separate tickets, so will it be possible to arrive in DOH, collect bags and recheck them to MCT and enter the airport and stay at the Oryx or is that just too far ahead?

Q2: On the return it's QR in F to DOH arriving about 1500 then BA to LHR the next morning 0730. I had read that QR WILL check through from MCT-DOH-LHR on separate OW tickets. Is that still the current experience? Would we be able to stay at the oryx again on the return?

Q3 If it's a no to the Oryx, I've got flexible bookings at the Qabila Westbay and Four Points Sheraton Doha. Is there a better or closer property to the airport, given the late arrival/early departure times?
Thanks for any help in advance

1) Correct, BA is a hard no. Yes you should be able to do that. Or before committing to going landside, go to the transfer desk and let them know. They might be able to get someone to retag your bag for you, to save you going landside.
2) You can ask at MCT. However as mentioned numerous times in this thread QR have removed the though check benefit wording from their website so if they refuse there is nothing you can do about it. I would be tempted to get a hotel in the city anyway.

since you are flying regional F class, you are eligible for Al Safawa first class lounge where there are private sleep rooms. no need to book the transit Oryx hotel.

I'd be grateful for advice here as I can still cancel my flights. I've redeemed BA avios for a flight from ZRH-DOH, arriving at 1625 on Thursday. I then have a separate redemption booking for DOH-BKK in F on Friday morning at 0830.

Should I expect a seamless, albeit long, transit where I can go to the Al Safwa lounge on landing Thursday evening and perhaps have dinner and secure a sleep room? Or will lounge access be denied until after midnight? For that matter, if the agents at ZRH can't print a BP on the Thursday for my separate flight on the Friday, will I be able to get a BP in transit on Thursday evening?

I don't particularly want to stay somewhere landside given the early flight the next morning.

Edit: I should say I won't have checked baggage.

Can QR link the individual PNR in their computer. I assume they cant combine them (most airlines don't) but it can sometime help logistics and coordinated changes if an airline has them linked in the computer.
Edit: I guess the real question is: is it worth calling and asking?

Always. Are there any circumstances in which you shouldn't call and ask? Do you have anything to lose by calling and asking? If you call, your downside risk is that they'll say No. And there's some chance, however small, that they'll say Yes. But if you don't call, there is zero chance that the answer will be Yes.

This is certain

I guess it depends what you mean/expect by "coordinated changes"

You may call and speak with someone who says they have noted your bookings. But be aware that they will still be separate tickets, so the strong likelihood is that they won't magically become a protected connection, or have a single change penalty etc.

I would call the Qatar number or use live chat to ask. Good luck!

Demand far outweighs supply, there is a very high chance OP wouldn't get a room in Al Sawfa.
