Positioning flight on separate ticket? You'd probably be fine 99% of the time, but I wouldn't risk that 1% for this fare.

yes positioning flight as i still need the 2 flights for BA status ;/

so i'll be 'leaving' to collect my luggage since BA change their rules last year.

will fast track make a difference?

Are you flying from LHR to BRU? I am not a regular flyer from LHR but had probably about 50+% of my flights from LHR delayed in the past few years. It would be a shame to miss this flight because of some intra-Europe BA flight that is delayed. My advice would be to go for something in the 2.5-3hours range if available

50%+? As a regular BA flyer from lhr I would say that was unlucky in the extreme.

I'd concur.

While you may leave LHR late, the flights usually make up the time en route - and short flights have significant padding built into them to allow for BA to still land ontime at places like AMS, BRU & CDG.

Thanks all, i won't chance it and get the earlier flight into BRU from LHR.

i'm sure 3 hours in BRU won't be the end of the world.

Not at all: it depends on the sample size.

If the sample is only two flights, then it is quite reasonable for half the sample (one flight) to be delayed, even if the underlying probability of a single flight delay is very much less than 50%.

On the other hand, if the sample is 10,000 flights over a year, then the probability of the sample having a 50% delayed fraction is a different prospect altogether.

Oh sorry I forgot we were not on the BA board where my off topic ramblings are tolerated

If the sample size is two then drawing any kind of conclusion about overall punctuality would not be realistic to start with.

I will do

Am i right in thinking QR will allow me to interline my bags with BA on the return to save having to leave the airport?

Yes, QR will check bags on to a separate oneworld ticket.

Thanks Karfa,

I think i'll risk the 1.5hrs turnaround on the return journey if they will interline my bag.

i'm planning on hitting Tokyo and Osaka in 7 days so i'll be wiped out on the way back.

My sample size is ~20 flights. Most delays were actually minor. I think the largest was 30min. But even without my "sample" I personally would still try to go for a slightly longer connection

Don't forget that schedule changes happen and that changes below 2 hours don't allow you to get another flight time or destination for free with QR. Don't forget that delays can happen too.
As my credit card company only allow change fees reimbursements below a 4 hours delay I never risk an under 6 hours connection on separate tickets.
