QR/CX to and from Hong Kong

Update October 2019.

CX used to fly to DOH, but this route was cancelled in February 2016, so now all flights are on QR metal although codeshared by CX.

Currently, QR operates the B777-300ER (and occasionally B777-200LR, for operational reasons) to Hong Kong and these aircraft sometimes have QSuite.

Lounges at HKG International Airport

Plaza Premium First Lounge -This is the default QR contract lounge for customers travelling in Business Class. You may however use any OneWorld Business lounge, or any OneWorld First lounge if you have Emerald status.

The Pier – This lounge is the newest lounge at HKG. Multiple reviews can be found online of its offerings, It is an excellent J lounge. Access is quite far by Gate 65. The F Pier is good. Access is for OneWorld Emerald, and QRPC Platinum Cardholders. It is located by Gate 63.

The Wing – It has been refurbished. The J lounge is to the left of immigration. You have to go one floor down for J lounge and near Gate 3 (F lounge is at same level as immigration, just to the left). It is often crowded as it is convenient. Most prefer the Pier J lounge but that can be quite far from the QR gates. The F lounge is nice It is located immediately to the left as you come through Border Control. Some prefer the F food at the Wing (rather than Pier), with both a buffet and a la carte. Access is for OneWorld Emerald, and QRPC Platinum Cardholders.

The Bridge – If you are travelling in J, this is the lounge that QR/CX will automatically send you to. It is a large lounge, but well stocked and perfectly comfortable. In addition to J passengers, access is also for OneWorld Sapphire and QRPC Gold Cardholders. It is located close to Gate 40.

The Deck – One of the newer J lounges, J/OneWorld Sapphire/QRPC Gold Cardholders. It is located by Gate 16.

To be honest if the flight is that far out there's a huge chance it will be swapped between now and then, possibly to a new aircraft altogether (i hope )

I have already looked at SeatGuru and QatarSource, but neither shows me the actual map for my flight - as I do not know which version of the A332 I will be on.

That's very true, and I hope it changes too - but I feel this unlikely until CX change their A333 to a 787/A350, and then permit QR to also change.

How about running a dummy booking in economy (on expedia.com or some such) and seeing which seats are available for selection in Y?

Interesting. I had no idea Expedia allows you to see the cabin in advance of booking - when I book J or F on the QR website, I can only see available seats after I've booked.

Expedia shows 26G, 27GJK and row 28 as 'Occupied'.

Drat!

Because it was part of a multi-city trip, namely LHR-DOH-PEK and HKG-DOH-LHR, I wasnt able to select the CX flight without incurring a phenomenal additional fee.

The A332s will typically show as old configuration (with those seats in rows 26 & 27 blocked) until a couple of days prior to the actual flight - so there is still a good chance you could get the refurbished version!

Premium Economy?

I am booked on QR5800 (A330-300 operated by CX as CX645) at the end of May in Y. It appears that CX uses a three classes 33G, but CX doesn't sell premium economy on this route. Are there any chances, if CX really uses the 33G, to choose PE seats (row 30-33)? At the moment on the QR website the Y seat map allows only seats from row 39 to 75.

To answer my own question (after the flight):

CX uses a 3 classes A330-300 (33G with seating configuration J39/W28/Y175)) with a two classes service (Y and J) and usually at check-in status passengers are moved in the PE section, with Y service. Unfortunately all CX Airbus 33G are going to be refurbished at the 33E standards (J39/Y223) during 2015.

In my case, being not able to choose, also during the online check-in, any seat ahead of row 39 (the first row in the economy section), I grabbed 39 A&B for my wife and I, considered the best row available on the CX A330-300. At the check-in I had confirm that they usually move elite passengers (OWE, OWS, full fare) on rows 30-33 in the PE section, but on my flight they had one of the 4 aircraft already at the 33E standard, without PE section. Luckyly, being the flight oversold, the check-in agent gave me two upgraded business class seats for us...

QR815 on the 22 May was a new A330 with fully flat beds.

CX is removing Premium Economy from Indian and Middle Eastern routes.

I have just flown cx645 from HKG to DOH and it was a 2 class plane. I also remember it being a 2 class plane when i flew back in march on the same route.

I have been doing this route almost every month for a year now and have a 90percent opup rate.

Has this issue been fixed?

Are QR5800/QR5801 flights credited automatically, or do you still have to file a claim?

nimenime the last time I flew this route the miles were all creditted automatically. However since QR admit to problems with codeshare I strongly suggest that you check to see if they are or not.

Quote "”In addition to above kindly note that in certain cases especially with partner Airlines claims, sometimes our system are not able to auto capture the flights hence, due to which your flights are not credited automatically.
In case you any flights which have not been captured automatically, kindly provide us the flight details for us to verify and credit your account."

Has anyone any positive experience with OLCI for these floghts?
