QR/CX to and from Hong Kong

Update October 2019.

CX used to fly to DOH, but this route was cancelled in February 2016, so now all flights are on QR metal although codeshared by CX.

Currently, QR operates the B777-300ER (and occasionally B777-200LR, for operational reasons) to Hong Kong and these aircraft sometimes have QSuite.

Lounges at HKG International Airport

Plaza Premium First Lounge -This is the default QR contract lounge for customers travelling in Business Class. You may however use any OneWorld Business lounge, or any OneWorld First lounge if you have Emerald status.

The Pier – This lounge is the newest lounge at HKG. Multiple reviews can be found online of its offerings, It is an excellent J lounge. Access is quite far by Gate 65. The F Pier is good. Access is for OneWorld Emerald, and QRPC Platinum Cardholders. It is located by Gate 63.

The Wing – It has been refurbished. The J lounge is to the left of immigration. You have to go one floor down for J lounge and near Gate 3 (F lounge is at same level as immigration, just to the left). It is often crowded as it is convenient. Most prefer the Pier J lounge but that can be quite far from the QR gates. The F lounge is nice It is located immediately to the left as you come through Border Control. Some prefer the F food at the Wing (rather than Pier), with both a buffet and a la carte. Access is for OneWorld Emerald, and QRPC Platinum Cardholders.

The Bridge – If you are travelling in J, this is the lounge that QR/CX will automatically send you to. It is a large lounge, but well stocked and perfectly comfortable. In addition to J passengers, access is also for OneWorld Sapphire and QRPC Gold Cardholders. It is located close to Gate 40.

The Deck – One of the newer J lounges, J/OneWorld Sapphire/QRPC Gold Cardholders. It is located by Gate 16.

Anyone taken a QR codeshare operated by PG (Bangkok Airways) before? Is OLCI available for the complete flight itinerary on the QR website if fully booked on QR flight codes...?

purple1addict I cannot tell you if the same is true for PG. For CX codeshare OLCI is not available. For an Itinerary booked online at QR my 'tickets' and all other documents state QR5800/QR5801, and my PC number. OLCI was unavailable and miles were not credited. OLCI and miles crediting
works for QR operated flights only on 'codeshare' tickets.

Today I received the following explanation from membersvc:
”In addition to above kindly note that in certain cases especially with partner Airlines claims, sometimes our system are not able to auto capture the flights hence, due to which your flights are not credited automatically.
In case you any flights which have not been captured automatically, kindly provide us the flight details for us to verify and credit your account.
On behalf of Qatar Airways, we reiterate our sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused and regret not meeting your expectations.
For future flights, please remember to quote your membership number while making a reservation and at the time of check-in. This will enable us to track your Qmiles automatically.”
LOL!

Sigh. Thanks remdk for the info!

Did your QR operated flights on the same itinerary credit automatically? I'm starting my return journey with the PG codeshare - it's not the end of the world if that one doesn't credit immediately but I'd like to think the longer haul QR segments will!

purple1addict My Itinerary was
QR160 CPH-DOH - credited automatically
QR5801 DOH-HKG - Not credited Needed to claim as a Partner airline flight.
QR5800 HKG-DOH - Not credited Needed to claim as a Partner airline flight.
QR161 DOH-CPH - credited automatically.
My wife (family member) on another itinerary was not credited AT ALL. CPH-DOH and DOH-CPH could be claimed as QR filghts but DOH-HKG and HKG-DOH were partner airline claims.

A330-300 Operated By Cathay Pacific

Hi Everybody,

I'm planning to fly to HKG next mont, I'm thinking of booking Qatar and the flight back is in the QR5800 A330-300 operated by Cathay, but does somebody know if they use the (new) herringbone Cathay business seats on this flight?
Or is it less good than the Cathay Business seating?

The flight to Doha is with the QR276 787-8 dreamliner, is that also a good flight?
and the other flight is the QR816 A330-200.

Maybe somebody got experience with this flights and could give me some info/pictures.

Thank you all!

I flew on QR5800 (CX645) a few days ago. This route is operated solely by Cathay's 3-class A330s (http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Cathay_Pacific_Airways/Cathay_Pacific_Airways_A330_D.php). They have the same reverse-herringbone seats as seen on their 777 fleet but the size of the seat is slightly smaller in comparison due to the A330 body.
I also flew on QR816 recently. It's quite a lottery flying on 816 since sometimes the refurbished A330-200s fly (with flatbed seating) but you could also get their old angled-flat seat. On my flight I got the old seats unfortunately.

All CX A330s and 777s have the new herringbone business seat. It's slightly less angled and slightly narrower on the A330 compared to the 777, but still much better than any of QR's A330s. When i do HKG-Europe I take the CX flight to DOH and then aim for a 787 onwards.

The old seats you refer to have all but been removed from long hauls now.

The refurbished A330s with the 2-2-2 180 degree flat seats are good, but not as good as CX's 1-2-1 layout.

The A330s with the old sloped seats are best avoided on night flights like HKG.

Is there any way to tell which version of the A330 I would have on my HKG-DOH flight in August?

These 332s are distinguishable in GDS seat maps because they lack economy class seats 26G and 27GJK (albeit they still have 260 seats in total, like one of the older configurations). Note that these seats are now blocked on all 332s (to allow for easier swaps), but only if the seat is missing from the map it's a new configuration aircraft.

I flew on QR5800 on CX metal. It's the new seats as other members said but the quality of meals are miles behind QR's J (both A380 or A330).

Ok, but I'm in J so cannot see the full seatmap.

I'm on QR815 on 18th August if that helps.
