Qatar Airways Stopover Package (STPC)

Note : STPC has not been available since COVID started and won't probably be available before the end of the year 2022 due to the World Cup. But you can book a StopOver hotel for a discounted price with Discover Qatar (starting at $14 for 4* and $20 for 5*) until 24th October 2022 (no later, again due to the Wolrd Cup)

•Passengers with a transit time of between 8 and 24 hours are eligible for a stopover package (STPC) in Doha, offered by Qatar Airways.
•An STPC request can be made as early as 361 days in advance, but no later than 72 hours prior to departure. The STPC is either offered complimentary or bookable at a fee.
•For group bookings, different rules apply.

I. STPC free of charge
•In cases where there are no immediate connections available between 8 and 24 hours.
•No exceptions can be given (7 hrs 59 minutes = not eligible, 24 hrs 1 minute = not eligible).
•N-class and above.
•Directional ticket value above USD 400 (incl. YQ tax).
•Directional ticket value is the sum of the fare paid for the journey and the Fuel surcharge (as shown on your E-ticket) divided by two.

II. STPC against a fee
•When the passenger holds a ticket in booking classes below N.
•When the passenger holds a Privilege Club redemption ticket in Economy or Business Class.
•When the directional ticket value is less than USD 400 (incl. YQ tax).
•USD 125 fee for Economy Class passengers.
•USD 150 fee for Business Class passengers.

III. STPC is not available if the booking includes flights to or from Abu Dhabi (AUH), Bahrain (BAH), Dubai (DWC), Dubai (DXB), Kuwait (KWI), Muscat (MCT), Ras Al Khaimah (RKT) and Sharjah (SHJ). .
•If the passenger holds a temporary passport/travel document.
•If the passenger holds separate tickets.

IV. STPC package includes
•Hotel room for the duration of the passenger’s stay (5-star hotel for Business Class passengers / 3-star hotel for Economy Class passengers). If there is a change in the Flight Schedule and the new connection time in Doha becomes less than 8 hours then the existing hotel confirmation will become invalid.
•Temporary entry visa fee to Doha, Qatar*.
•Transfer HIA - hotel - HIA.
•Meal voucher (depends on duration of the transit).

V. To book STPC
•Update PNR with passport number and nationality (tickets need to be issued).
•Contact Qatar Airways, providing credit card number including expire date and CVC code.

VI. Different scenarios for STPC
•QR is operating an immediate connection with seats available in the desired cabin, but the passenger has booked a connection with transit time of 8-24 hours. STPC is not permitted either complimentary or against a fee.
•QR is operating an immediate connection but no seats are available in the desired cabin. If the passenger has booked a ticket on the next available connection with a transit of between 8-24 hours, STPC against payment is permitted.
•QR is not operating an immediate connection; all the connections have a transit time of between 8-24 hours. Passenger may choose any connection and receive STPC free of charge. There are reports that this may no longer be correct.
*Confirmation of your hotel at Doha does not guarantee entry into the State of Qatar. This is entirely at the discretion of the immigration authorities.

Anecdote: a code-share DOH-CMN within the 8-hour window did not disqualify me from STPC. In other words it is only QR operated flights that are used for connection time calculations.

I have STPC- What do I need to Do?
This is covered in the wiki of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...t-do-i-do.html.

How does the new Free stopover affect STPC?
QR have just launched a new free stopover policy. See http://www.qatarairways.com/english_...ease_plusqatar, http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/plusqatar.page and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...on-2017-1.html for details.
At the moment STPC sappears to be unaffected except for 'multi city' bookings. At this very early stage there is no clear practice as to who qualifies!

awxm88 according to http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...2017-a-18.html "+Qatar is a unique programme designed by Qatar Airways and its destination management division, Discover Qatar, in collaboration with Qatar Tourism Authority. It enables passengers transiting through Doha to enjoy a holiday within a holiday by adding Qatar to their holiday or travel itinerary." Note the previous minimum stay appears to have been removed.
Thus you are qualify for the +Qatar offer.

With STPC the check-in/check-out times at the hotel is set to correspond with your flight arrival/departure times. With the +Qatar offer normal check-in times apply unless you can negotiate other times with the hotel yourself.

Another difference between stpc and +Qatar is that stpc will give you a voucher for meals at the hotel, whereas +Qatar is room only. So it depends if you think that is worth it to you, when you could also eat in the airport lounges on arrival and departure.

With regard to an early arrival on +Qatar, if you get to the rotana at say 7.30/8am and your room is not ready, you could use the restaurant, pool and spa and leave your bags either in the spa lockers or at reception until the room is ready.

gotcha. so what you're saying is

(1) do STPC for US$150 and have a guaranteed hotel waiting
(2) do +Qatar and risk the room not being ready till 3pm

my qn is though, I understand you can add another night with + Qatar for US$50 (or is it $100 now?). In that case I'd still be better off booking 2 nights via + Qatar...

I have an R class business class trip coming up. No other connection available. Connection over 8h. I was told that I was only eligible for paid STPC as my fare was less than $400 pp but with YQ it is over 400$. Shall I call again and ask for free STPC or is the R class a no no? It isn't worth for me paying $300 per couple. I can get the Marriot near the airport for less than $150 and we have free visa. Am I eligible for Qatar+?

Definitely not on the outbound but I think you might on the inbound (depending on the agent you speak to). I have the following flights coming up:

QR193, DOH-BRU, 0825 on 24 Sept

There is a later flight QR955 departing at 0020 on 24 Sept, but I still seem to have qualified for STPC.

Can I choose my hotel?

I'm toying with various options for a business class trip to Thailand in February, and one of these options is to fly back from Chiang Mai to Helsinki. Due to the timings of the individual sectors, I would have a 21 hour stopover in Doha, so from what I have learned on this thread I would be eligible for a complimentary hotel stay in Doha plus meal voucher.

While I would quite like to have an opportunity to see a bit of Doha, I don't particularly want to stay in a hotel at or near the airport. I would much prefer to stay in a hotel downtown, which I can use as a base for a walking exploration of Doha.

So first question - Can I specify a particular hotel or an area of the city for my free hotel stay, or is it entirely at the discretion of the airline? Second question - Is Doha good to walk around anyway?

GGLwannabe it is not usually possible to select your hotel with STPC. QR usually use the Oryx Rotana Hotel, which is quite close (about 1.5-2 km) to the Souq Waqif and Museum of Islamic Art.
But if you want to choose your hotel why not taka a look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...er-2017-a.html as an alternative. It gives you the choice of four and five star hotels. However it is room only so meals etc are extra and you need to look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...countries.html to see if a visa is required.

Remember that the Museum is closed on Tuesdays.

Thanks for the replies. I won't be able to make use of the Stopover offer unless it's extended for flights after December 31st, but having had a look at the Oryx Rotana, it seems like a pretty good hotel and in early March should be tolerable to walk 50 minutes or so to the Museum. Noted it's closed on Tuesdays.

I think we need some additional info. One ticket as CMB-DOH-LCA? UL flight on UL number or QR number? Entire itinerary purchased from QR?

Are Y and J pax on STPC accommodated at the same hotel? Are the room categories assigned or the services any different?

What are the transfers like from Hamad to the hotel? Shuttle bus or private car?

From a previous Y experience with QR. The hotels are different, it seems as per QR website that J pax get the 5 star Oryx Rotana and Y could be a multitude of hotels they use. I stayed at Retaj Al Rayyan Hotel back in 2015 , fairly decent. Room categories i assume are the lowest room category at that hotel. Obviously staying at a 5 star hotel comes with 5 star service and then so on for 4star and 3 star hotels. Transport is shuttle service provided by a minibus when i stayed. I am sure it is the same for Oryx for the J folk !

Hope that helps , this is what i have picked up on via my in-depth searches for STPC related stays in Doha back in 2015 and more recently, Along with my actual Y stay in 2015...... Some info may be out of date or a bit off.

As Y pax, I was given best Western plus 4 weeks ago. Transfer was with minibus and room was I guess of lowest possible category. It was quite big room but without any window (curtains on the wall ).
I have another again in 2 weeks again as Y pax, let's see how will it be this time.
