Visa-free entry to Qatar for citizens of 80 countries

The Gulf Times reports that Qatar has further relaxed their visa policies and is now offering a 90 days multiple-entry visa valid for 180 days (for nationals of 33 countries) or a 30 days multiple-entry visa valid for these 30 days (for nationals of another 47 countries).

Has anyone else heard of this?
here the link to the report: http://www.gulf-times.com/story/5595...er-Qatar-visa-

hotwingz the list of countries is to found on URL="https://www.qatarvisaservice.com/Qatar-Online/QROnline/VisaCategoryAndPricingDetails/VisaArrivalNationalityList"]https://www.qatarvisaservice.com/Qatar-Online/QROnline/VisaCategoryAndPricingDetails/VisaArrivalNationalityList[/URL].
However there is no distinction between 30 and 90 day countries.

remdk, there seems to be:
"A) Nationals of the following 33 countries will not require prior visa arrangements and can obtain a visa waiver upon arrival in Qatar. The waiver will be valid for 180 days from the date of issuance and entitle its holder to spend up to 90 days in Qatar, during either a single trip or on multiple trips."

B) Nationals of the following 47 countries will not require prior visa arrangements and can obtain a visa waiver upon arrival in Qatar. The waiver will be valid for 30 days from the date of issuance and entitle its holder to spend up to 30 days in Qatar, during either a single trip or on multiple trips. This waiver may be extended for a further 30 days.

It probably doesn't make much of a difference for most people. I suspect the greatest benefit is to not have to apply for a transit visa beforehand

Well, that's weird, because both the Qatar Airways link above, and the Qatar Tourism Authority suggest there there is a difference between the number of days a visitor can stay depending on his or her nationality.

The first 180/90 list is most of Europe, including Turkey but not Russia.

The second 30 day list includes Andorra, Monaco, USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Singapore and Japan.

It's a rather odd partition.

I wonder whether having a Qatar entry in a passport would cause trouble with other Gulf countries that have banned Qatar flights.

BlackBerryAddict this new measure has just been announced so it is unlikely that the changes would have been made to the websites yet. That is what hotwingz is pointing out. the current visa webpage https://www.qatarvisaservice.com/Qat...ationalityList has not been updated and does not distinguish between 30 and 90 day visas.

MSPeconomist I think you will find evidence on http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...-airspace.html that a Qatar visa is no hinderance.

The changes have made it to both the sites I linked to and are mentioned in the news article that hotwingz linked to, but not the one you linked to - and on the basis of which you said that there was no difference.

BlackBerryAddict surely "has not been updated and does not distinguish between 30 and 90 day visas." not only says that there are differences but i have highlighted what I consider to be one major difference.

The page I refer to is the QR page under 'Journey' - 'Visas and passports'. This is the information that QR guide passengers to and thus must be absolutely correct! (but it is not.)

The page to which you linked in your post #8 above is not a QR page. It's a page from VFS Global Group. VFS Global is a private company which manages administrative tasks related to visas, passports, etc., for governments and maintains application and visa processing centers around the world for its client governments. It currently contracts with the governments of 56 countries to handle visa and passport services for those countries. You may have missed the warning on the QR page which directs you there which says, "*Note that you will be directed to an external website."

Can someone confirm that the waiver is free rather than the having a charge under the previous rules (unless free on a QR STPC stopover)?

Thank for not wandering

I wonder how they decided on which countries will get 90 days and which 30 days? It seems like a strange split.
