Quantas First Class

I will be flying from BKK to SYD on Quantas Flight 2 on Thursday night in F. Could any regular Quantas fliers give me some advice/comments on the seating/service/etc.? I am a 1K on United and usually fly them for all my international trips, but obviously they do not fly that route. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If I don't get in first someone else surely will - its not Quantas. Its QUANNOTEAISE. It stands for QUeensland ANd NOrthern TErritory AIr SErvice.
Its pronounced as you would pronounce boullibaise

Seriously though, with a recent upgrading of their wine list you will have the opportunity to taste some of Australia's best reds. The selection LAX-BNE 2 weeks ago included Wynns Michael Shiraz 1997 (young I know) and the Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon which is one of Australia's finest. Leave room for whatever Botrytis Semillon they have to accompany dessert. If you play your cards properly (or drink your wines properly) the quality of the service and the comfort of the seating will become totally irrelevant.

iluv2fly comes from Shagargo, so surely he can be excused for the spelling?

Can anyone support a rumor I heard that young Granage will be on the list soon - seems unlikley, but???

I fly SYD -LHR about once a month and have started using BA or CX this year since I have not been happy with the QF F product - can someone who has more recent data tell me about any improvements during the last year?

I am quite happy with QF 1st. Of course it's not as good as CX 1st but makes a HUGE difference between biz and 1st on QF! This is the only way to fly on Qantas!

I rate QF and BA as equal (and quite step down from CX). QF can be very good, but quality is very ragged. They have indeed revamped the international F wine list (sorely needed, they actually had superior wines in domestic J!) but they rotate the wines so you never know what your flight will get. The printed wine list includes Grange, but no sign of it actually being on a plane (maybe they bought some for use in 2030). My impression is that QF has realized that it has a service problem and has taken steps to rectify it. I like to fly QF, it is always an adventure and sometimes quite pleasant. And you do get the priority emigration queues when leaving Australia (never a line, unlike for other airlines).

True, but I have acutally never been turned away with a BA or CX BP at the priority queue - I make a little speach about OW and code shares and they just process me.

Can QF PAX use the BA arrivals facilities??

And I've rarely seen much more than a 2-3 minute delay in the non-priority queue departing from Australia.

Yes, QF premium passangers can use the BA priority arrivals queues at LHR T4.

Okay, I can't spell. After being on a plane for almost 24 hours, one's bain turns to mush. So, besides wine, did I do the wrong thing by booking QF? Any recommendations on seats? Should I change to another carrier? From what I have heard so far, it's not too encouraging.
Oz, you better be nice - or I won't treat you to drinks at the ANA when I get there!!

I should follow you!!! perhaps it is just my bad luck of that I am always going during the afternoon bank, but I often have a longer wait.

In any case, my LHR question was not FastTrak, but the BA Arrivals Facility - Any info??

Free Drinks?? At the ANA??? At that superb panoramic bar right up the top?? Marty your spelling is exquisite. I meant to mention that. Every word was spelt just perfect. Whomever made light hearted fun of it needs to be severely spoken to. I will track that person down and have stern words. Now, back to those drinks ......

BWatson Yes QF F+J pax have access to BA Arrivals lounge at LHR.
I concur with you, my 1st choices are BA or CX over QF. Reasons? - seat quality and disparate service from QF crews - I always have 2 completely different flts with the crew change btwn Europe and Aus.

Ahh, but I do try to avoid SYD! No problems in BNE (ever) and MEL is pretty good. Generally in SYD I am arriving on the bus from the domestic terminal again have never had to wait more than 1 or deep in the queue. Maybe that is because I am so polite letting others take the seats and offer to stand on the bus - right next to the door - meaning I get off the bus first and up to the departures level before the masses . If I am about to sit for 12+ hours, I can handle standing for a 5 minute bus ride.

I beleive so, but I am others more experienced/knowledgable will jump in if I am wrong. I generally arrive in the UK from the US so am arriving on a BA flight and have no problem with arrivals liunge access at LHR and LGW.
