Earning Status Credits on Code Shared Flights

I am a QFF Gold member. I am planning to fly to LAX from PVG (Shanghai) on a flight operated China Eastern Airlines and is code-shared with AA. If I buy the ticket from China Eastern, can I earn status credit and miles for my QFF?

What if I buy the ticket from AA?

There is nothing in the Airline Earning Table ( http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...m/terms#jump23 ) which indicates that it wouldn't be eligable as long as it is ticketed using the AA flight number. Booked on the China Eastern flight number then no points or status credits would seem to be earned

Oh, and welcome to FT and the QF Forum Transport Hub. AA flight number will give you status credits and points, MU flight number will give you nothing.

I was under the impression the flight had to be a OW flight number AND on OW metal to earn - i.e an AA flight number on non-OW metal would NOT earn...

Also even if the flight does to earn SC - if it's in economy - only Y class earns "full economy" SC - other economy classes are "discount economy".

This is certainly my understanding although it is easy to interpret otherwise from the wording on the QF website. That says, it seems that AA coded flights on AS metal seems to earn miles and SCs.

To explain what I am referring to, note this on the QF website:

If you read all the above statements, one can easily interpret that when flying BA or AA, you will earn SCs regardless of whether it is AA, BA, OneWorld metal or not. That said, except for where a partner airlines relationship is involved (e.g. my AA/AS example stated at the start of this post), I highly doubt a flight would ever post.

For example BA codeshares on SN Brussels Airlines and Flybe, which I feel would be very unlikely to post although there is a strong possibility that a BA coded EI (Aer Lingus) flight would post as EI are still a partner of QF.

Would be interesting to see whether someone can share their experiences of either SN Brussels Airlines or Flybe sectors posting to their QF accounts. It would also be interesting to see whether AA coded TK, SN etc flights would also post. I suspect not, but happy to be corrected on this.

There are no exclusions listed in the T&Cs for AA travel unlike certain other carriers , so there is no reason why it would be excluded

For economy travel , it would indeed earn at discount rate ( unless in Y ) since it is not an Australian Domestic service

I respect what you have stated, however I would like to hear of an actual example. Last time I asked for someone to show a concrete example, I heard nothing.......

Would be extremely interesting to see if a AA coded China Eastern flight would credit to QF. Personally I doubt whether it would happen.

Thank you for all your replies to my question. The flight has two codes: AA and MU. It is operated by a non OW airline. Although they are for the same flight, the price difference is really big. But I still have to buy my ticket from AA in order to be eligible for SC and points.

It would according to the T&C's - Dave Noble already explained why. I figure that AA knows the flight happened based on their codeshare, and passes the details back to Qantas. If AA didn't want to credit for a codeshare, then the T&C's would be updated to remove that ability.

If I was on that flight and it didn't credit, Qantas would end up crediting the flight to me based on the T&C's after I complained to them.

It's the same as a Qantas flight on Jal metal (or rather how it used to be before Jal joined OW). I'm yet to fly any AA flight not on AA metal, so can't give a concrete example though.

It should. Within Star Alliance it is usually the metal which counts. Within QFF it is the flight number which counts.
A QF flight number on OZ metal gives you status credits, same for other code shares. AA codeshare on CX metal gives you the AA points, not the CX. The only exeptions to this are really funny things like QF flight numbers for German train services etc.

I hear all of what you are saying and I agree that if you read the T&Cs to the letter it should credit. That said, I have yet to see anyone post practical experience of this happening. That alone speaks for itself.

FWIW, I count QF codesharing on other carriers in a different light as they get a piece of the action.

I recently queried with QF regarding credit for codeshares and received this response:

The general rule is that you can earn points for codeshare flights where both of the airlines are members of the oneworld alliance. The reverse also applies, where codeshare flights that are sold with the flight number of – or operated by – an airline that isn’t a oneworld alliance airline or a Qantas Frequent Flyer partner airline, the flight isn’t eligible for Qantas Frequent Flyer points. You can find detailed information on earning points for flights, at the following: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...m/terms#jump23
Which is where I got the impression that OW marketed, non OW metal flights will NOT credit...

And so does nobody posting here complaining that it wasn't credited... These types of forums tend to handle more complaints (or unusual activities) over normal happenings. Therefore, I suspect it does credit correctly as I can't find complaints that it doesn't credit correctly.

Note the "general rule" clause... There are plenty of examples where Qantas codeshares with non OneWorld airlines and the points post correctly... Now if you were talking about Cathay, then yes I agree. AA, I don't agree.

I'm going to disagree with you here. FT is generally filled by travel geeks, and with that in mind, if someone has successfully done what we are discussing in this thread, they are quite likely to pipe up about it. This forum in particular is a stickler for facts so if it has been done, no doubt it will be posted. For the time being I will agree with bdmaus with the only exception being QF coded flights on non-OW carriers (e.g. the AF SIN-CDG flight).
