Website is fixed now to reflect the E-Mail.

Dear Mr DUF

Thank you for your correspondence.

We have now updated our website to reflect the correct policy for lounge access. Thank you for brining this matter to our attention.

One interesting thing to note here though is they seem to be allowing the use of QP's as arrivals lounges:

Member and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure.+
Guest does not need to be travelling.
Nothing about your NEXT flight having to be that day on QF et al, just that you are entitled to access on day of departure.

I think it is reasonable to assume that the intent of the wording is to be day of departure from that particular airport. So you can use the SYD lounge on the day you are departing from SYD.

I understand that the actual text does not say that and a lawyer would walk right through it in court, but I do believe that is the intent and the way that Qantas Club staff will interpret it. So if you want to use it as an arrivals lounge, be prepared to argue your point and be prepared to loose the argument on occasions.

And yet I've never had a single problem (even at MEL DOM) showing my BP on arrival and saying "my lift is running late, okay if I wait in here" and being told that I am entitled to access.

If MEL DOM is prepared to allow it, then it MUST be so, we all lknow what they are like down there!

Indeed I have used domestic lounges upon arrival many times. But then again, its been a lot of years since I have not had anytime access by way of Platinum status.

It also states on the +
"Must be travelling on a oneworld Airline Members operated and marketed flight."

If the journey is over then the passenger is no longer travelling on a OW airline but has travelled on a OW airline

It may be allowed sometimes however I do not think that the rules intend to allow access on arrival

Nothing there about it having to be the NEXT flight - it is quite specific about "DAY OF DEPARTURE" though.

So given that your asserting something vague, and the rule is quite specific, I would go with the specific part of the rule myself (and the QF lounge dragons I have spoken with concur).

I tend to agree with Dave Noble and NM on this. The intention is not to provide an arrival's lounge for domestic traveller's - regardless of what the lounge dragon's tell you when you rock up with your 'late lift' excuse.

Travelling implies a future trip on that day - not a previous trip on that day.

Still, if you're allowed in, then just keep using that benefit until you're kicked out!

Ok, the letter of the law (I HATE having to invoke the 3.5 years I did of a Ll.B., B.A.) is as follows:

The advertise that you can have access on the day of your departure;
They do not state that access is ONLY availabe prior to departure;
They do NOT state that access is not available on arrival.

Based on what is advertised as access policy, namely that access is available on day of departure, and based on what lounge dragons have stated to me (confirmed three minutes ago with PER lounge dragons - PER is the only QP open at the moment) access is indeed available to QF members on arrival. But only domestically.

(I wonder how this would go at a DOM QP after flying between one of the cities of the seventh state, namely AKL, CHC or WLG and then wandering across to the BNE/SYD/MEL DOM QP's).

Are there any domestic red eye flights where you arrive the day after you depart? I wonder how that would be treated

Depends on the departure time from PER - at the moment, they all leave a minute or two after 00:00, so arrival would be the same day as departure (IF you want to be really pedantic).

Hysterically though, some PER-east cost flights have left just before midnight.

Then you should not be permitted into the PER lounge since your visit would not be on he day you are travelling on a OneWorld flight.
