If the journey is over then the passenger is no longer travelling on a OW airline but has travelled on a OW airline
Nothing there about it having to be the NEXT flight - it is quite specific about "DAY OF DEPARTURE" though.
So given that your asserting something vague, and the rule is quite specific, I would go with the specific part of the rule myself (and the QF lounge dragons I have spoken with concur).
