Therefore "checked luggage" is cases patterned with alternating squares of color used to carry belongings when traveling.

OOOPS...I guess "checked" could also= consign for shipment on a vehicle. In that case "checked luggage" = cases used to carry belongings when traveling, consigned for shipment on a vehicle.
I am sorry to have confused you SPIFF, I imagine you were befuddled by the idea that 100ml bottles can only travel in cases that are patterned with alternating squares of color.
Should I have said checked baggage? Or something else? How about "Put your 100ml bottles is the bags that you will be checking at the ticket counter to travel in the belly of the airplane."?

I had a TSO at an airport, LIT I believe but it was during a MR so it could be any one of 8 airports and my memory is fuzzy, specifically tell me that all liquids had to be 3.4 ounces or less so at least one TSO knows the correct number. I, due to all the 3-1-1 stuff, thought that 3.0 was the limit before talking to that TSO and reading this thread, so I can relate to everyone else who is also confused.

I'd be curious to know how many FTers wind up checking bags just they wouldn't normally just because of the liquids issue.

I would also bet it impacts women more than men.

That's the whole point - we don't intend to check luggage on this trip.

As long as it fits in your Kippie Zippie, you should be fine for carry-on.

No.

If it is 3.4 Fluid US Ounces or smaller (equivalent to 100mL) AND it fits in your Kippie then you are fine.

If anyone suggested otherwise do as Cee suggests and get a supervisor over to help clarify the issue. But just because something fits in a kippie bag doesn't make it OK.

It took about 5 minutes of inspection at IAD late last year but I was finally allowed to bring in my 100ml bottle of Jagermeister in my 3-1-1. . This particular TSO had no idea what Jagermeister was.

By the way I do know how to determine whether someone is a witch...

I appreciate all of the TSO's who post here. Even though I may disagree with some of you, you at least bring as much of the human side as is possible to a text only medium.

Also I have never had checked luggage. Sometimes I have used a grocery store plastic bag to carry my belongings in.

No, not good enough.

``3 ounces or smaller (or 100 ml),''

Does this mean if it is marked with 3.3 oz (and not 9x mL) it gets through?

3.4 fluid ounces (100mL) or smaller would be good enough.

Until the TSA takes a class on writing, that's what I will continue to do.

You are "speaking" to an individual who deals with the TSA over 50x a year, and has had enough negative experiences to be reasonably certain that 100 mL will not always pass muster with the TSA.

The fact is the TSA thinks 3.0 oz == 100 mL. So if something is labeled 3.1 oz, it will be likely be disallowed.

OK, just thought I should update everyone here.

We had two screenings by the TSA, one in SEA and the other in EWR. On neither occasion did they give any additional scrutiny to the exact size of the bottles - just a cursory glance.

Thanks again for your input pre-travel.

The "individual" was right.
