If you speak French, 100ml is fine.

"... contenant des récipients
de liquides ou gels, d’une capacité de 3 onces (100 ml)
amaximum."

http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/311-broch-french.pdf

Also, it will appear to work for those Spanish speaking passengers.

"...de mano envases de
líquido o gel de 3 onzas/100 ml o menos en ..."

Ahh that explains it: My friend who is american and speaks neither french nor spanish had a 100 mL bottle confiscated last month at a TSA checkpoint at PHL because "... it exceeded 3 ounces". He tried arguing but no dice: Leave it or check it!

Should have been escalated to a supervisor.

I think thats a PHL issue, they also seem to have problems with the fact that something can weigh 120g and have a volume of less than 100ml. With the basic definition if density being logical in metric, I presume they just dont teach it in TSA school

Here, since you're unable to look for the thousands of times it's been brought up in this forum.....

TSA FTers, IS IT 3.0 or 3.4 ounces?!
Yes, if it is on FT it must be true. Still got me on the floor laughing.

Show me a place on tsa.gov, other than the blog, where the rule is now 3.4 U.S. fluid oz.

If you stick to the 3-1-1 and only bring 3.0 you are still within the regulations.

OMG. Clear as mud.

This good enough?: Link

The rule limits the volume of liquids, gels and aerosols to bottles 3 ounces or smaller (or 100 ml), in 1 quart-sized zip top bag, and 1 bag per traveler.

Okay, fine. Then why don't you just take the 3.0 ounces through the next time. Mmmmmkay?

Because i'm coming from somewhere other than the US where all the travel size toiletries - fro sunscreen to shaving foam and deodorant - come in 100ml (not 88ml) containers.

Tony, you're fine. I'm speaking to an individual who is willfully ignoring the facts in this thread and is posturing.

We reduce risk by deciding what we believe is necessary for a completed bomb -- the core of the 100ml (3.4 ounce) limit........

Coming from an LTSO, and one who is more often than not the supervisor on duty, and responsible for making the decisions on the CP and knowing our SOP and policies and adhering to them and enforcing them....100ml is the limit.

P.S. This whole thread has gotten a little ridiculous! Seriously. Do what you want, bring what you want. Put your 100ml toiletries in your checked luggage. Whatever...

I agree that the thread has become ridiculous. But it has done so because the TSA refuses to clearly post accurate information on the 311 site. If they had the actual number (3.4) instead of their marketing number (3) then the issue would be done. But since the TSA webpage, recorded announcements in airports and other propaganda all still says 3 instead of 3.4 you'll have to forgive that passengers don't really know what to believe. And since folks continue to report that TSOs are confiscating 100mL containers, there is some meat to our frustration.
