Oh, and Ms. Feinstein was kind enough to include a reference to the TSA website should I have any questions. She sucks.

I have an idea...next time, tell Mizzzzzzz Feinstein that you are a muslim and your holy Muhammad water was confiscated by the TSA. You can bet that she will snap to and make sure someone pays for your humiliation and emotional torture.

I received this form letter from Senator Cornyn today. I can assure you that the comments in my letter were not addressed -- as evidenced by the referral to the TSA site:
Thank you for contacting me about federal aviation security measures. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.
As a result of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) increased screening procedures for all airline passengers. These enhanced security measures were necessary as the federal government redoubled efforts to safeguard the nation and those passing through Americas airports. As America continues to lead the War on Terror, we must be prepared to adapt to ever-changing threats against our homeland.
Over the past five years, stringent Department of Homeland Security and TSA standards have helped foil terrorist plots, including the most recent London-to-U.S. airline terror scheme. I understand your concerns regarding the effect post-September 11 aviation security regulations have had on passengers. I also recognize our need to ensure the safety of American travelers, and I will support initiatives that increase security without infringing upon the civil liberties of law-abiding citizens or impeding commerce or travel.
You may be certain that I will keep your concerns in mind should relevant legislation be considered by the Senate. If you are planning air travel, you may obtain a comprehensive list of security procedures and prohibited items at the TSA website, www.tsa.gov.
I appreciate having the opportunity to represent you in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator

This is what we get when we have a new bureacracy.
What Reagan would have done would have met with mass hysteria at first (recall the concept of disbanding HEW and Dept of Ed) - but it may well have ended this idiocy on the part of a govt department that lives only to serve its own "lifespan".

OTOH, the junior Senator from IL (Obama) actually has somebody reading the letters and updating the forms.

Actually Congress and Senators do track emails, letters and calls....if they get 1000 calls and 90% are on the same side they will re-consider their position. The problem here is that most of the traveling public is willing to put up with these inconveniences because they fly so infrequently. So they are not getting 1000s of daily calls, more like a handful.
I personally think creative protests which get media attention are far more effective. They don't require a lot of people, but they do require some creativity and a story hook...and with some luck a slow news day.
Unfortuately TSA seems to be winning the current media battle. Plenty of stories in USA Today, NYT, television etc which spout the party line. It will take some real effort if we want to tell our side of the story. Maybe we should have a day when everyone brings toothpaste thru the metal detectors and then writes a nice message in every airport lav. But I doubt you could find enough people to risk fine or imprisonment for this cause.
