Record Number of Visitors
Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau is reporting the number of overnight visitors grew to a record 9.4 million in 2006, up 3.4 percent from 2005.
These visitors spent a record $4.75 billion while visiting the city and county, up 10% from 2005. Total state and local taxes paid by visitors while in King County increased from $376 million in 2005 to $419 million in 2006. The outlook for 2007 is looking to be just as strong, if not stronger. On the cruise front, the Port of Seattle projects record passenger volumes of 435,000 in 2007 with five major cruise lines offering 191 sailings from the Port of Seattle through November 4. An April AAA survey identified Seattle as one of its "hot spots" for summer 2007. Seattle ranked third among domestic destinations following Orlando and Las Vegas (ahead of NY & LA). Summary of 2006 Seattle/King County Visitor Impact: Visitor Volumes 2005 9.1 mil 2006 9.4 mil % Change +3.4% Visitor Expenditures 2005 4.3 bil 2006 4.75 bil % Change +10% Tourism Tax Revenues 2005 376 mil 2006 419 mil % Change +10.4% Jobs Generated by Tourism 2005 60,000 2006 62,000 % Change +3.2% |

If you're planning to spend some time in Fremont and like chocolate, make plans to stop by Theo Chocolate. They're an all-organic shop that roasts their bean on site. It's in the old Red Hook Brewery.
They highly suggest to call and make reservations for the tours which are only on sat & sun at 1p & 3p. The tour costs $5 and you definitely get the value in chocolate through the tour. :) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=715294 |
I did not realize that Red Hook shut down. That is too bad since I remember drinking some of their beers in the past. :(
