I'm personally not a fan of the atmosphere at Elliott's. If you want to stay downtown, my favorite place for seafood is Flying Fish in Belltown.

If you can leave downtown and head to Ballard, check out Ray's Boathouse.

If you're hear in the 1st half of June, give the Copper River Salmon a go.^

Seattle has many wonderful restaurants. Some other of my favorites not yet mentioned:

Canlis (I think the best restaurant in town)
Qube (New fusion place with very creative menu and good sake list)
Oceanaire (a chain but excellent food and service)

Bon Appetit.

Ray's Boat House - Seafood, in seattle on waterfront in Shilshole
Shiro's - Japanese food (Seattle - downtown)
Saint germain - French food (Seattle - Madison Park)
Mortons/Metropolitan/E Goucheo/Daniel's Boiler - Steak Houses
SIAM - Thai food Lk. Union area

I think the steak houses are all top rated but would skip them all. Also Flying FISH is a hot seafood restaraunt but I thought terribly overpriced.

I prefer the Vietnamese restaraunts located in International district at 12th & Jackson area in Seattle. Thai food is great everywhere in Seattle the little Bangkok of the West!!! lol

I have never had a good meal there. Several times the fish comes in too much oil, the potatoes are cold and everything is highly overpriced.

I took a lovely cruise and had a delicous meal. Weather should be good at that time although when I went in November it was picture perfect.

This gets my vote too! Great food and service. A reservation helps.

They can have quite a bit of attitude during peak times so make a reservation.

A lot of good suggestions; Met. Grill, Ray's Boathouse, Tamarind Tree are all great, if you live here or have multiple nights. Since the OP asked for what sounds like only ONE nice spot in the downtown area, i'd recommend wild ginger.

Last time i was there the editor of a major national wine magazine was there dining and chatting it up with the sommelier... It is uniquely Seattle and I've had some nice meals there.

I use to organize events on the "Spirit of Puget Sound" back in college. They had a very nice dinner cruise and the wait staff even sang. They sailed out of pier 70 but I don't know if they are in business anymore.
