"Free Nights" Golden Circle Promotion II

I understand that the promotion is now concluded. I apparently received credit for 7 nights hence 1 stay basis the rules as I interpret them. Would others like to share their results?

In my opinion, it is unfortunate that the Golden Circle group did not send emails to its members announcing the program, explaining the terms, etc. rather than assuming that emembers would go to the Golden Circle web page to learn of this opportunity individually. What about you?

Would anyone like to comment on their preference for and/or interest in the methods they would prefer re receiving notification for the next promotion, should such an offer be made? I would hope someone from the Golden Circle management team would view your comments and take appropiate action, if warrented.

Thanks in advance for any replies------

Like you I stayed 7 nights in the eligible period, and earnt one night.

I was surprised at such a low-profile promotion - why have a promotion and keep it secret? However, to be fair I had travel to the UK locked in and so I couldn't have changed my travel plans even if I had wanted to.

My comment about the promotion is the relatively short period in which the nights must be redeemed - six months would be nice.

Hi FortuneofWar:
Yes, you are correct!!! I am disappointed that I did not receive advance notice of the promo as if I had, I would have obviously arranged 8 days and hence 2 award nights instead of 7 days and 1 night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I aso agree that the award period is to short to be of much value but in my case it is OK as I will be in "Shangri-la" territory for about 2 weeks in November. Because of this confusion, however, I am thinkinig about trying some new hotels in the Far East. Do you have recommendations for Hong Kong and Singapore that you would suggest I investigate?

Thanks

No, I'm afraid I can't help you. I'm based in Australia, and in October will travel to Asia for the first time. With only one Shangri La in Australia (Cairns doesn't count!!!) I'm quite pleased to get the chance to get to a second property & thus get to Executive status.

Ops, FortuneofWar, I overlooked welcoming you to flyer talk and this thread in particular!

Thanks for responding. By the way, where will you visit in Asia?

I don't know how recent the news is but on this web page:

https://www.shangri-la.com/gc/innerc...s&issue=66#144

it mentions the appointment of a new director, loyalty and partner marketing based in HK who came from CX's loyalty programme. I'm told that CX's loyalty programme is quite good at communication and marketing (e.g. invitations to events etc) to their customers outside of Asia even those who're not top level elites. Hopefully this will feed through to GC!

Thanks for the Welcome. I'll be in HK for two weeks at the end of October, staying at the Island Shangri La I hope. I stay very regularly at the Sydney Shangri La, which is great. I've had my eye on a second hotel to achieve Executive status, but the only other Australian Shangri La is in Cairns, and my 'normal' travel is to the UK and US - so this trip looks to offer a rare opportunity for me.

The answer is too many!!! If you read the Golden Circle section of the Shangri-la web page--- www.shangri-la.com you will note that they require 60 nights/year for the top level-the Elite. Unfortuantely, I was in one of their hotels for this number of nights for the past few years. If I remember, however, you get almost the same benifits at the second level---- the Executive level, which I was a member of for at least one year, and you are only required to stay only 20 nights total at two different Shangri-la properties. If you send me a private message and you are close to this number of nights I can offer you some additional suggestions. The Executive Level, in my opinion , should be your goal. for once you are there, you have most of the benifits that are important and they are only slightly different from the Elite level. (See the above web site for details of benifits for each level.) The big differerence is in the lowest level---the Classic Level---although benifits are significate here as well regarding upgrade to suites, etc.

This program is like any other loyalty program at any hotel, airline, etc. You must see what they offer and if you like the benifits you MUST reach the goal you set even if you spend your own money to get that last night or two included.

Again, if you have questions I will be happy to share what I know although remember I am just a member, not a specialist or employee.

Regards
LWW

LWW,

thanks for getting back - sorry havent checked for a while.

Cheers.

Hello again FortuneofWar:

Unfortunately, I will not be back in Hong Kong until November. Will your late October stay extent into that the following month? At any rate, you should take advantage of this opportunity to gain your Executive Status...I assure you it will be of benefit to you. Remember there are two Shangri-la properties in Hong Kong. I cannot compare them as I have not stayed at the Island location yet. But I can assure you that the Kowloon facitilty is a marvelous
facility due in no small part to their customer friendly, service dedicated General Manager, Mr. Heywood. If you would like any specific info about my impressions of this very special property, send me a private message.

By the way, thanks for letting me know about the Sydney hotel. I did not stay there the last time I was in the city due to business commitments but hope to return next year and hence have another chance to visit the Shangri-la there based in part on your endorsement.

Happy travels-------

No, I'll fly home on the 27th.

You should look forward to the Sydney Shangri-la, I think it's fantastic. Make sure you get a view of the Opera house.

Sorry we will miss each other.

I love the Opera facility,,,perhaps one of the best known sights in the world... In my opinion, it rivals Sugar-loaf Mountain in Rio where I once lived.

Happy travels

Actually, I've just realised that if I slip across to Shenzheng and stay a night there I'll have the otherwise elusive third property, and assuming "membership year" means the 12 months from the day you join (can anyone confirm please) Elite shouldn't be a problem.

I'm afraid not - from the T&C:

Shangri-La Golden Circle Elite membership will be given to Executive members who, in the course of one calendar year, record a minimum of 60 qualifying room nights at three or more Shangri-La hotels and resorts.
Plus you also need to bear in mind that you may need a visa for Shenzhen even if you don't need one for HK.
