Dovster, I reached two stripes 4 days, 7 hours and 33 minutes before you did....but who's counting?? ;)
And, trust me, I'm a lot closer to getting my epaulets ripped off and dropping back to one stripe than I am in hitting the big three.
But I'm happy to report I was Blinged overnight by a nice young lady who I've never met and who left a very nice message.
Therein lies one of the fun things about this new feature. How many positive things happen when you're sleeping?? Basically you just get a few hours older and hopefully wake up. Your post count doesn't increase while your sleeping....well maybe ScottC's does :)....but, hey, your Blings can increase magically while you're horizontal. How much fun is that?!
Seriously, as I've stated before, this can be a fun feature and I've corresponded with many new FT'ers since the reputation thing kicked in. I'm sorry others find this to be a divisive feature. My experience has been exactly the opposite.

Scott re times, from Day #1, I set my FT default to use USA Mountain Time, as has been clearly explained to you before when you chose top raise that totally irrelevant issue.

.

That requires administrator access, which no regular members of FT have.

Folks - might I politely suggest that from this point on we focus our posts on the thread topic, which is the new 'reputation' system.

The thread seems to have wandered off track a little - and I am not guiltless in that, but there is but one listed moderator on this Forum, and he is not a moderator any of us would wish to be tangling with. :)

I never said that or intended to imply that. It's just that there are so many obvious ways to manipulate a "popularity" system (technical or otherwise) that I would find it surprising if they exceed the imagination of someone who is very computer-savvy, which you seem to be.

Edit: It was not my intention to offend you, perhaps my previous post could be misunderstood. Insinuating that YOU did it was not my intention, just expressing surprise that someone who knows a lot about these things would make a statement that sounded rather naive, imho. This system can easily be "manipulated" even with non-technical means, just by having a lot of people you know vote whichever way you want. And there are probably a lot more ways to manipulate it from a technical standpoint, etc.

Thanks for the clarification, I pinged you as a compliment :)

Yes, it is possible to have your friends vote for you, but they can only do so once every 50 votes (so with 3 votes per day and one for the same person per 50 votes that would be every 17 or so days). To reach say 370 points requires a heck of a lot of people (in my case well over 75 different people), I don't have that many close friends on the board :)

Using fake handles won't work well either as you need 250 posts to have any impact on a vote, and once you reach that without getting caught you will only have a few reputation points worth per vote, and of course once more, only once per 17 days.

There is no known exploit for the system though like with every system that could always change.

I had all of my friends and relatives vote for me. That got me one point.

Unfortunately, I lost that when I was binged by Mom.

I agree with Cholula. ^ The fun far outweighs the small annoyance of people who dig back months to find old posts to ding, or who ding totally innocuous posts like, "Happy Easter". As my Daddy would have said, "You have to ignore them when they act up. It's just their meaness coming out". Mostly, however, it is just nice people spreading goodwill and having a fun time.

Overall, FlyerTalk has been a friendlier place since the new system was installed.

Woo Hoo!

I just got my second 'bling'! Having two jewels makes me feel special! So special, I could ride the short bus!
Thank's Techgirl!

How did you do that when I had it disabled?! Hacker!! :p

That's very kind of you, especially since the only time I have tried the whole "reputation system" was with a ding for you ;). I'd try to make up for it with a bling, but I have to spread some reputation around first and am too lazy for that!

I agree 100% with your post. FT is truly a much more gentile place, since we are now all trying to be nice and acquire those little green cubes. :D

Of course. I have been dinging Cholula left and right and he is a gentile.

(Actually, I have only been dinging Cholula on the Right. I never do anything on the Left.)
