prevailing sanity
I'm in favor of disabling it outside of coupon connection entirely (and I can feel the dings coming my way even as I type).
Failing that, don't make anonymity a choice--any reputation "pings" or "dings" should carry the signature of the originating user. I fear, however, that even making reputation a non-anonymous thing, folks (some in OMNI, some not) will simply wail away on each other anyway, not caring that they cannot do so anonymously. I see this as a problem which will ultimately become a drain on Randy's (or the moderators') time, which is a bad thing. |

At the risk of getting back to THIS thread topic, and leaving old OMNI scores where they should be left .... ;)

To me this is nothing but a feature that has created nothing but grief among some members, and just another way to create controversy. Is it useful in the Coupon Connection to begin with? You can only do reputation points once in a blue moon. This silly "reputation" thing is THE most divisive and negative feature of the 'new FT', and why on earth Randy has persisted with it so long does surprise me. The way ANYONE safeguards against a dud trade on Coupon Connection is simple - and has always been simple - do a search of all that person's previous posts and read them carefully. Has always worked 100% perfectly for me. You can pick a freebie hound or coupon trader from a "normal" Flyertalker within minutes by doing just that. The "reputation" feature would assist not one jot for Coupon Connection as far as I can see. Clearly the small core of immature 14 year old mindset "usual suspect" yahoos are wreaking havoc with this feature right now - as doc's post below illustrates, and several others in this thread have experienced similar dings.

"Reputation?" -Mark HOWEVER, seeing some coward has chosen to leave my name on your comment, I'd urge Randy or techs (with your permission of course doc) to look into it further. We are told that FT Admin is able to discern which resident intellectual left any comment, so I hope that person is found and dealt with. Will this mean extra work and hassles for Admin? Yes. But .. they turned the silly thing on, after all. ;) If others have noticed similar clearly unlikely negative comments being left and signed by unlikely FT'ers I'd urge them to contact Randy and Admin, as a clear pattern might then emerge they can act upon. |

And, to be fair, some wish not to play along with this reputation feature and have turned it off just for drill. You can view your own reputation points as well as any comments...pro or con....on the bottom of your "MyFlyerTalk" page. Hopefully this answers your question. |

It thus serves as no accurate indication whatever as to the value or otherwise of that person's posts. The opposite result is very possible if you think on it. Having now heard back from Glen personally, I can at last officially confirm that he asserts he did not do the "dinging!" So surprising that I am truly shocked! :o
Does anyone here, no less Randy, really need my permission to investigate or to do anything Glen? I'd think not! ;) BTW, apparently at least one other FT feels this "stuff" is great, as they "dinged" me again on that very same thread! Anonymously this time! --- 10K Post Club Apr 19, 04 7:46 pm http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...49#post1778349 --- How will I ever get any sleep tonight! :D Strangely, I've been accused of being disruptive/divisive/attacking/retaliating and so on by some. Perhaps more curious is the fact that even by essentially not posting on FT in an ongoing earnest effort to help "keep the peace" this happens! :( There must be a lesson in this somewhere, I guess! In any case, I sincerely wish FT the very best in resolving this latest affront concerning "identity theft/impersonation/harassment/trolling/whatever" and I'm confident that the situation will be quickly remedied in a manner that benefits all! Naturally, if I can help in any way, as always, I surely will! My best to ALL FT'ers worldwide! :) Respectfully "lurking", -Mark |
I too hope that Randy takes this new abuse seriously and permanently bans the offenders, and.............................keeps the reputation feature, despite the fact that I just receive another "coward ding" on this thread.
Actually the reputation feature is grand fun! :D I try to use my 3 points a day to spread some love. You are sooooooo right--there are way to many wonderful posts out there to even think of wasting a reputation point on a ding. The lovely comments I have received far outweigh the foolish dings from "those who are without identity". ;) |
The last 6 posts
Are exactly why reputation should be disabled outside of Coupon Connection.
There are far better uses of Webflyer's (Randy et al) time than chasing down anonymous "dingers." I'm sure I'll get hit for posting this, but my point above has illustrated itself in the span of a few short hours... |

Talk about a fertile ground for discussion... |
Now, Cow Dung, has to become a classic.
LOL. I thought that was so funny, Canarsie, that I tried to give you some love, but FT says I am all out of love for the next 24 hours. Well consider yourself loved anyway. :D
