Well...add me to the list of those where someone signed my handle to a negative ding they sent. :(

I just got the following Private Message from a FlyerTalker I would never give a negative ding to:

Did I do something to piss you off so badly that you would hit me anon with neg reputation
In fact, I haven't negative dinged anyone!

Sad to hear you have joined that ever-growing "Club" Premex.

Certainly hope Randy or Admins can track down the cowardly Yahoo(s) that are actively and continually doing this.

Doc and I both agreed our accounts could be checked to hopefully establish what intellectual left a nasty ding for Doc and signed my name to it.

IMO this 'feature' is incredibly divisive, un-necessary and is being actively and regularly abused - no doubt about it.

Red Flag Negative Reputation Point

I received my first Red Flag Negative Reputation Point for this comment? If my comment above ruffled the feathers of a FT member then some of the FTers have real problems!

Of course, the person who sent me the red flag did not have the nerve to sign their real identity, or any identity at all. If possible, there should be an automatic signature from the sender when any reputation point can be sent, whether positive or negative.

Sorry to hear this PremEx, as it seems that your name, like Glens' and Punkis', was also fraudulently utilized in signing off on another "ding"! :(

Again, FWIW, getting anonymous dings, even for threads about a year old or so, is "different" IMHO - and I get plenty of such negative "dings" including the following since my last visit yesterday:

A new twist to reputati... Apr 21, 04 9:57 am You're blowing the curve!

Although, with the exception of the one phoney use of Glens name as noted ealier above, these "dings" have thusfar all been unsigned, presumably those doing the attribution know who they are, and get some real enjoyment out of it. Of course, being so very doltish myself, I have no idea who does not care for me and/or my posts! ;) Is offering FT'ers a new, arguably more droll mechanism with which they may carry on their campaigns of "quiet" harassment truly a bad idea? That's up to Randy & Co to decide! In any case, I think I can take it! :D

Moreover, it is presently NOT a violation of any rule of which I am aware. FWIW, in the interest of disclosure, I've given many anonymous reputation ratings myself, yet they are admittedly nearly all postive anonymous approvals! :)

BTW, thanks to each and all those kind FT'ers that may have given me a positive rep note that I may unfortunately have missed seeing - since ya' only see the last five rep's received! :o

I'm curious, how long will it be before someone finds that they were supposedly "dinged" by Randy himself?

FT is only as good as the many fine members make it! Have a great day everyone! :)

After an inital flurry of negative reps, I was receiving mostly postive ones. When I posted what I knew would be a very controversial letter in the "Closing Threads" thread, I fully expected to be dinged left and right. (Well, dinged mostly from the left).

I was, but surprisingly none of the dings referred to that post. Instead they went to various, fairly harmless, posts I have made elsewhere. I have to admit that it gave me a big laugh.

I am enjoying the game, both dinged and binged, but have not gotten any negative comments that were signed -- and certainly not any signed with phony names. Of all apects of the Reputation Game, that is the only one which bothers me.

I have not made any negative dings for quite a while but if someone does get one, and it is signed by me, I ask that they contact me immediately to ask if I was really the person who made it. In fact, I suggest that you do so with any signed dings.

That'll be easy to figure out. If you lose one full "Cloret" for that ding from "Randy", you'll know it's from the man himself. He's presumably able to rip off your epaulets, so to speak, although I doubt he'd do so.
He's probably having waaaaaay too much fun watching all of us debate this thing into the ground. ;)

A ding of his wouldn't do that much, he only has 2,000 posts ;)

Now, if he were to manually modify your count, that is another story.

I was give -99,996,017 negative points by the so called leader of another board

ozstamps Apr 22, 2004 8:52 am

Folks, take it from me.

When Randy 'dings' you, you know ALL about it. He does not need silly little green squares or silly little red squares to make his point.

I speak from some considerable experience in these matters. ;)

I know of the board you are referring to! If I remember, you had a dozen or so red squares and I don't believe the reputation feature could be turned off as it can on FT. :)

Canarsie Apr 22, 2004 9:04 am

Actually, Look Closely — The Squares are Really Rectangles. Time to Get in Shape!

We all know about green squares, red squares, grey squares and black squares.

What happens if one receives one of the following squares?
  • A green square with red polka dots.
  • A Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheat square.
  • A Trafalgar Square or a Times Square.
  • A so-called “square” from the 1960s.
  • A square slice of pizza, usually from what is known as a Sicilian pizza.
  • A T-square.
  • A round or triangular square.
If two FlyerTalk members decide to arrange in the trading of reputation points, would that be considered a square deal?

Of course, all of the above squares would have a different meaning if they were sent by someone using the name of someone else.

It might be recommended that we stop this discussion, but that would require the use of an octagon, not a square...

Why not, it is the same software ;)

Besides, things are getting out of control in this thread.

This morning, I checked what dings I got, and I didn't see a square, but an image of someone giving me the finger

That must have been Randy :D

Dovster Apr 22, 2004 9:17 am

Well, we were having an intelligent discussion but that obviously became impossible when we starting allowing people from Southern Cal and Marietta, GA, to get involved!

For those of you who are unaware, Cholula is an anti-American, neo-fascist, semi-communist who heads an international plot to destroy the United States.

(As I mentioned above, one should always be prepared to back up his allegations with attribution. For those of you who doubt what I said, I refer you to http://www.cholula.com/legends.html ).

Canarsie wants to be all of those things but can't spell well enough to look them up in the dictionary. As a literacy-challenged individual, he had no choice but to settle for being the head of the Engish Department at the University of Georgia.

(Wow! I included enough prejudice and libel in this letter to make it qualified for Omni!)

With this reply, you just proved yourself wrong ;)

Although I attempted to remain on-topic in my last post with the following statement...

...please accept my apologies, Dovster and everybody else — I did not mean to derail this discussion.

I would immediately yield this thread back to you and the others, but that would require a triangle and not a square...
