Any chance of moderating this thread?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum20/HTML/002419.html

It's nothing but a distasteful personal attack, intended to incite.

Note that my request has nothing to do with the sentiment expressed in this thread. No request here to moderate another thread, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum20/HTML/002418.html, which expresses more or less the same opinion but not as an ad hominem attack.

Thanks Randy, and sorry to bring it to your attention so soon after the big event.

Just to clarify, 2419 is the one to be moderated; 2418 is OK. I assume doc was commenting on the fact that I put a comma after the URL, thus breaking the link.

Yes, it was the comma! Unfortunately my email is seemingly temporarily "dysfunctional" or I would have just notified you by email!

Randy, how about taking another look at this one. It's degenerated into the same old nonsense, perpetuated by the same old folks.

Thanks again...

dgolds,

You are correct, that thread has degenerated. Truth is, that thread should have been locked down and removed immediatly. That is what moderation is all about.

My attempts to defend NJDavid's right to an opinion have been met with attacks on me.

Since moderation does not seem to be in the future plans of FT, I will not participate here any more. So long.

Camera Guy - I honestly think a very impartial reading of that thread might more correctly read: "Five other FlyerTalkers rights to have an opinion have been attacked by Camera Guy."

And since when did NJDavid need you (or anyone else) to defend him?

Perhaps we can all just "behave" and save the boards from the inevitable ultimate question of whether to just shut down the entire operation!

"Miles and points" is what Randy & Co and what I also believe most Ft'ers want!

Let's ALL please "talk travel!"

Just remember, you sanctimonious do-gooders, that one hand alone can not clap.

I think you guys just draw more attention and goad more fury into the debate by high-tailing it to Randy every time folks get into some heated discourse.

ETOPS01: It's not heated discourse I object to; I've seen and participated in plenty of that on this and other boards and mailing lists.

It's disrespectful behavior, name-calling (i.e., "sanctimonious"), and inciteful posts that turn me off. The thread I reference above started off with a very nasty personal comment about NJDavid. It has since been edited by the author, which I do appreciate, but numerous other personal attacks remain.

This is hardly the behavior of "one hand clapping." Lots of folks have requested moderators in the recent and not-so-recent past. Randy has made a good start on it and has asked us to point out threads that might be candidates for moderation. Many valuable contributors have left our midst as they feel they have been hounded away by just the sort of behavior that is evident on this thread and others.

I will not apologize for standing up and saying that people here deserve to be treated with a modicum of respect. FlyerTalk has been a source of much valuable information and many nice friendships. I for one would like to keep it that way.
