You are right :o - this was towards the end of a 45 minute telephone call (18 minutes on hold) and I wanted to get it over and done with. It was not a big deal to me.

Agreed; really only pertinent when originating in large area countries like USA, Canada and Australia.

CBR now included in Australia transcon retrictions

New version of rules dated 30 November 2009

Only change I've spotted is:

4. FLIGHT APPLICATION/ROUTINGS
...
(l)Within Australia - only one nonstop/single plane service flight is permitted between the following points:
BNE/CBR/CNS/SYD/MEL - PER
CBR/MEL/SYD - DRW
MEL/SYD - BME
...

You are very probably correct, Wasabi Tofu. In the past, it's been suggested in this very forum that itineraries could be arranged like this in order to use up some of the segments that would otherwise go unused, even several months before/after the true RTW trip. I guess part of the price we pay for an open forum is that OneWorld can react to the members' creativity where they think that we are pushing the limits too much.

That said, I believe it's very healthy that the market forces operate like this. It would not be in anyone's interest for the product to become so unprofitable that it were to be withdrawn.

serfty Dec 3, 2009 4:51 am

There have been reports that some booking agents are applying it to the "continent of origin" rather than the "country of origin".

I was told that my planned AKL-xLAX-...-NRT-SYD-MEL-AKL was invalid, but AKL-xLAX-...-NRT-xSYD-MEL-AKL was Ok.

New version of the Rule Sheet - dated 1-Nov-2010

Only two changes

as reported by Bukhara in another thread:

The wording in the Flight Application has now been changed to prevent crafty folk from including surface sectors and escaping the extra continent charge for travel between Europe/M.East - SW Pacific.

TRAVEL BETWEEN SWP AND EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST ON A
SINGLE FLIGHT NUMBER/ OR BY SURFACE IS CONSIDERED TRAVELLING
SWP-ASIA-EUROPE THROUGH THREE CONTINENTS.

Also, the Surcharges for premium economy have changed
- presumably they have gone up, but I don't have a record of what they used to be to confirm that

02/02/2011 - New Version of the Rules issued

^now allows QF codeshare flights on JQ

:td:Albania and Turkey added to the list of countries to/fom which only two flights are allowed from/to the U.K

No other changes that I can see

01-Apr-2011 - New Version of the Rules Issued

Changes are no longer being highlighted it seems

The only change I can spot is that Tanzania has been removed from the list of African countries from/to which a second European entry is allowed
(rule 4(e)(3))
Not unexpected really - not after BA's Commair started flying JNB-DAR
But still:td:

Generally wouldn't want to originate in US anyway, so those six segments can still be useful.

Yet another new version of the rules - dated 2-May-2011
One change is highlighted - to the trans-cons in Australia, which now reads

Within Australia - only one nonstop/single plane service flight is permitted between the
following points:
BNE/CBR/CNS/SYD/MEL - PER
CBR/MEL/SYD - DRW
BNE/MEL/SYD - BME
BNE/MEL/SYD - KTA
(their bolding/colour)

ALSO - am I correct that some fares have gone up?
- I just looked on KVS and an ex-Australia DONE4 is AUD11,999; I'm pretty sure that it was AUD11,699 back in February
