Qatar Privilege Silver - how to access OW Ruby privileges?
Hi all. I recently got Qatar Privilege silver status through the Accor hotel status match program. I believe that gives me OneWorld Ruby status? I will soon be taking a short-haul flight on BA (London to Madrid) and in July I'll be flying Iberia to the USA. I see that OneWorld Ruby status gets you pretty much nothing other than access to Business Class priority check-in. How do I "prove" my OneWorld ruby status in order to legitimately stand in the business class queue?
It also says I can get access to preferred or pre-reserved seating, but in accordance with the individual policy of the oneworld airline operating the flight.. How do I see if I can get this? My BA account doesn't seem to be offering me free seat choice on my upcoming flight to Madrid. Does BA know my OneWorld status? My BA and QR accounts are linked - my BA Avios are showing up onmy QR account as well.
For Iberia, how would they know my oneworld status? I've just registered on their website and haven't joined their program - I just gave my BA EC number on the booking that I made.
Thanks in advance.

Easiest way is to attach the QR number to your flights - that's the one you've got status on.
Otherwise if you want to credit on BA, see if you can get a physical card.

Flying BA, seat selection for OW Ruby opens seven days before the flight.

As I understand it you need to use your QR number not your BAEC number if you want the privileges to be available. So if on your LHR-MAD flight you have entered your BAEC number where you do not have status you will have to wait until OLCI to get a free seat assignment - however, if on that booking you have your QR number at 7 days out you should be able to book your seat free of charge.

Status with each airline is separate and not transferable between the ffps. Can have different status with airlines at the same time. Like QR OWR and BA OWE. Can only get the benefit of that status when that freq flyer number is in the reservation. QR status benefits apply in a IB reservation that has your QR ffn entered.
Sometimes showing a physical ff card can get a benefit, like lounge access/extra baggage when the other ffn is in the reservation, but not guaranteed.
You need to decide on QR Privileges or BAEC as the main ffp to get and maintain status. Or if you fly a lot you can get mid-top status with both.

Thanks all. I don't fly a lot on OW airlines - I have status on Emirates and try to use them as much as possible, but I used Qatar last year and got the status match through Accor, and this year I'm doing UK/Spain/US and BA/Iberia are the best. I made an Avios reward booking on BA for London to Madrid - I'm guessing there's no way to attach my QR number to that? When I booked Iberia from Madrid to the US, I attached my BAEC number. I have now added my QR number to that booking, and that booking now seems to have both membership numbers attached to it. I guess it doesn't reallymatter because I already paid the extra for seat selection on those flights (damn!) so I guess it's only priority boarding that I could now get. Do you smart people think I'll be able to get that on Iberia? Is there any way to tell on the booking?

FQTR (R for redemption), FQTS (S for status), FQTU (U for upgrade), and FQTV (for mileage accrual) are different fields in the GDS. Not every airline allows all fields to be used, and I don't have 1st-hand experience with BA, but it is technically possible to associate QR FFP to a BA redemption.

One of your other questions, how to prove your status to use the business class check in. In many years of having status on one airline or another that allows business class check in on economy tickets, I've never been asked once to prove it. Sometimes there's a greeter to act as a gatekeeper, but just simply saying either business class or your status is sufficient, they don't ask for proof.
