As I understand it you need to use your QR number not your BAEC number if you want the privileges to be available. So if on your LHR-MAD flight you have entered your BAEC number where you do not have status you will have to wait until OLCI to get a free seat assignment - however, if on that booking you have your QR number at 7 days out you should be able to book your seat free of charge.
