Anyone know if the "skyway" security checkpoint has the scanner for this at MSP?

Skyway security checkpoint? What skyway security checkpoint???

The first rule of the skyway security checkpoint is that you do not talk about the skyway security checkpoint.

The second rule of the skyway security checkpoint is that YOU DO NOT talk about the skyway security checkpoint!!

all joking aside, the last time I used it, it didn't have one, but they might be rolling them out gradually...

an EBP-only lane would be an interesting concept... add some verification to the 'expert traveler' lane.

using blackberry/PDA display instead of boarding pass

Hey guys i had a question. One of my co-workers who flys NWA mentioned that they saw someone board an NWA flight by just showing and then getting scanned a barcode off of their blackberry.

Anyone else see something like this? Is it only for NWA? Any other airlines do this?

Thanks,

I have used the system. It is pretty slick.

Read more: http://www.nwa.com/checkin/eboarding/

Note (from the FAQ section at the bottom): "E-Boarding Pass is currently offered on non-stop flights from Indianapolis, IN, Detroit, MI, and Minneapolis, MN during check-in on nwa.com. If you are departing from IND, DTW, or MSP you must be checking in as a single passenger on a Northwest operated non-stop flight within the United States."

I think it is being rolled out to airports gradually... here is a recent thread:

I got stopped by the WTMD goon in DTW after using an e-boarding pass to clear the ID check. That initial part went well though, I put my phone against the reader and it lit up my name, he matched it against my ID and that was it. However after I stepped through the WTMD the TSA goon on the other side demanded my boarding pass. When I told him I didn't have one and used an e-boarding pass instead he held me up and began waving the next person through waiting for someone to "verify" that I had used one.

What's the point if the TSA goons don't play along?

That sounds like a training problem for TSA at DTW... first time I used it in MSP I explicitly asked "do I need to display anything post metal detector?" and they said no...

Indeed I don't notice them shouting "hang on to your boarding passes!" as people fill their tubs anymore (in MSP)... I imagine this adds confusion for infrequent travelers - different procedures at different airports.

Security at DTW

I tried this at DTW a few weeks ago and it seems like they don't have all the kinks worked out. had no problem scanning on my BB Curve (if you zoom into the barcode on the top, it works much better) but when I was walking through security, I had to show my phone to the agent post metal detector, then send the phone through the x-ray, then walk through the metal detector...more hassle than its worth if you ask me, unless they iron out the kinks.

Their post along with td_in_training's are almost certainly from a thread merged into this one. Hence why td_in_training is linking to the same thread that s/he is posting in.
