Complaining for miles!?!

I would presume this has happened to plenty of people, but on a flight last month to Germany with NWA, I experienced a series of shall we say adventures.

This ranged from a 90-minute never explained, then "announced" 45 minutes into the waiting delay, delayed luggage, inattentive service, ineptitude on the part of the people in charge of delayed luggage, etc...

In any case, my complaint generated 6,000 bonus miles to my WP account, which seems not too bad. (Although it would perhaps make more business sense to treat customers properly in the first place, I guess this will do.)

FWIW.

How did you word your complaint? I usually demand as much as US$400 cash for delayed luggage and get from US$100 to $400 in the mail shortly after (depending on the airline). How did you manage to negotiate miles? Did they offer them to you or did you ask first?

For some reason, I didn't think of asking for money -- guess I didn't see that forthcoming. Given that this delayed luggage thing has happened to me 4 times this year I wish I had been a little more on the ball.

I "simply" gave a detailed account of everything that went wrong (IOW, a detailed account of everything as it related to this trip), got an email back from a supervisor simply throwing miles at me. Now if only I can find a way to get the elite status I will miss by 2 days (flying back from Europe on January 2nd), all will be fine.

In any case, thanks for the financial compensation info, I will keep that in mind thenext time around.

Last year we had a very "adventurous" flight which resulted in lost luggage on 3 separate legs, and having our fist class seates sold to someone else because our connecting plane was late.

NWA asked if we would rather have a set of unlimited first class upgrades or 10,000 miles each. We said we would take the 10,000 miles for all the luggage losses and the upgrades for the loss of our confirmed seats.

The first agent balked and I as for his supervisor who said. "Sure, we'd love to give you both." She also gave me her direct phone line to call in the event I had any future problems.

She was a great gal.

Yes, she sounds like a great gal. I have yet to encounter such great people with NWA/KLM - except for that one check-in agent who acted annoyed at my presence and then handed me a pass for the business lounge and a business class boarding pass (I was flying rather discounted coach) without a word. The attitude was not great, but the end result pretty nice. :-)

Did you say (just curious) if this was a NW or KLM- designated flight?

And as our great and fearless (US) leader says "I feel your pain."

This was a KLM flight in fact, going DUS-AMS-YUL. The upgrade (obviously) was on the AMS-YUL leg. It was a pretty poor business class experience though (entertainment system worked only in the first 4 rows of the entire plane), service was nothing great, ... but I did enjoy the space and food. Couple next to me had also been upgraded. This was August too, and the flight seemed full. It was surprising given that I had no Elite status at the time, so I was kind of surprised.

Thanks!

"It was a pretty poor business class experience"

We are not being critical of the "wonderful" folks at NW/KLM, are we?

At least, as you noted, they responded and tried to take care of you and your problems with them!

Ah doc, how wonderful you are. (No quotes this time.)

And what exactly is your point? right after my comment directed at you in another NW thread, I have to believe the two are connected.

Thus, in that other thread I pointed out that you have a habit of jumping in with "witty" (read seemingly sarcastic/witty) in countless NW threads even when you have nothing to add to the actual topics being discussed. Your response, beyond the repeatedly edited ones in the original thread, is to bring forward a thread where I offered some criticism of NW.

So again, what is your point? And perhaps to spare our fellow members this discussion, feel free to email me, at [email protected]. I would have emailed you earlier, but sadly the FT Gods are concealing our email addressed at this time.

"And what exactly is your point?"

My point is that I do NOT see your point!

As I said, having read your various earlier NWA posts, I do NOT see any huge difference between you and I in terms of their content, dissatisfaction/ information ratio, wittiness or whatever.

And yes, since I thought I was possibly losing my mind, so I quickly reviewed your NWA posts just after your comment directed at me in another NWA thread. So they surely are connected! You have made various "less than flattering comments" regarding NWA which I have neglected to highlight - since there IS no point!

Of course you NEVER "jumped in" with no information to add!

Regarding your comment "Your response, beyond the repeatedly edited ones in the original thread...."

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I had trouble with the highlighting/ italics/ bold type and was trying to correct it, FWIW!

Yes, I'll surely email you, if you like, but I'd rather drop the entire matter since I do not feel this can possibly go anywhere where it will ultimately do any of us any good!

All the BEST to you and NorthWEST!

Back to the original topic.
Also had a series of adventures on a flight CDG-DTW and wrote with a number of suggestions for improvement and about my dissatisfaction. Received 6k miles and incredibly since this was last year and at the time when most regular NW flyers would agree was when service was at rock bottom have actually seen some of the suggestions that I sent them implemented. Sorry for all the other folks who have not seen improvement. As Ned Kelly would state; "Such is life."
