Last flights by model
Thought someone might have this info. When were the last flights for NWA of the following aircraft? Date, routing, N number, please:
MD-80
727-200
DC-10-40
DC-9-10
AVRO,
and if by chance;
707-300
720
DC-8
DC-7C
B-377
Know it's a long shot, but curious.
Thanks, Lou

Getting that specific of information will be tough.
The last MD82 flights were 31Oct99. I was on one that day from GRR-MSP. The plane had not been catered - there were not even beverage carts on board. The crew announced that this was this particular a/c's last revenue flight and apologized for the lack of service.
The DC9-10's went out in Jan 04. The major reason, IIRC was that they lacked the technology to comply w/ new FAA regulated reduced separation policies.
The last 72S flight was NW560 DEN-MSP 7 Jan 03. The link below is to a release regarding the 727 retirement. It also states that the DC10-40 was retired in late 2002.

I was then put on a DC-10-40 DTW-MEM, followed by a 727-200 for MEM-TPA. That turned out to be my last 'domestic' DC-10-40 I flew on as well as my last 727 flight in the same day. Shortly thereafter I recall NW stopped flying the 727-200 completely.

More domestic "heavies"! Why is that so hard for the carriers to understand? Unfortunately (for me), NW has no 767s, and is retiring the DC-10s... and you know they could fill DTW-LAS, DTW-MCO, DTW-LAX, etc. And here they are, retiring the DC-10s.
What's NW going to do when they retire the DC-10s, and they have charters and/or special events (such as the SuperBowl)? Will they keep some DC-10s operational for such things, use 330s and/or 747s, or just increase flight count?
DL still flies the 767s, and they're a blast. UA flies the 747 domestic. Better get your tickets while you can.

Many carriers use 75x's for charters these days (as does NWA)....but I have also seen a 744 used (UCLA chartered one for Final Four this year)

NW's got some spare A333/2s that'll join the fleet at the end of the fleet revamp. So there'll be enough to go around.

Last avro flight was December 1, 2006. The route was ROC-DTW. It ended a good run of 8 years with the red tails. Now XJ is down to 49 saabs and 1 CRJ.
The last 23 of these Avros will be flown at CityJet, an AirFrance subsidiary.

The University of Wisconsin band is flying from Madison to Orlando on a chartered 747.
It just blows my mind that a 747 is going to take off and land in Madison, WI.

Apparently they are being asked to play 'On Wisconsin' while facing aft to create additional lift. The tubas are booked at the back of the plane with the piccolos far forward. Michael Leckrone http://www.folklife.si.edu/resources...s/bandlead.jpg
has completed FA training and will be high-stepping down the aisle during takeoff to maximize power (though he is quite concerned about TSA confiscating his baton).

I know the Packers use(d?) a DC-10 for their trips. Each person had 2 seats, they are big guys, obviously. I would think a 333 or 332 would work well enough as a replacement, don't think a 75x would have the capacity for a charter like that, unless the team changed their seating arrangements.

You'd be surprised at the number of 747's I've seen at MSN. A lot of charters and an occasional reroute from ORD. They are certainly a little imposing to see them on the tarmac as you're walking to your CRJ to CVG or ORD.
