Predictions

AMFA Strike: YES
Near Term Operational Impact: MINIMAL ^
PFAA Strike: NO ^
Ch11 Bankruptcy Filing: YES, prior to mid-October
Long Term Survival Prospects: EXCELLENT ^

No doubt the ride will be rough for the near to mid-term while the leadership economically transforms the Company into a viable competitor for the new marketplace. However, NWA has surmounted numerous obstacles in its almost 80 year history, and I have every confidence in the long run they will emerge as a survivor.

Let's try to keep this simple! Since this topic is about the NW mechanic's union, are you arguing that NW's mechanics, cleaners and custodians are working under sweatshop conditions and receiving sweatshop pay?

Yes

There will either be a strike or the mechanics will be locked out.

I agree completely. And I predict a quick permanent replacement/outsourcing of all the mechanics and the end of AMFA at NW.

I think this assessment is correct.

Yes.

Beginning of the end. Doubt NW will survive into 2007.

Yes.

Who else is popping popcorn for the big countdown?

(Just kidding, but the way some of the media outlets are covering this, it's almost entertainment)

Yes - I would have never thought UAL would be able to avoid strikes so far, but NW won't be able to!

Log on to the redstar Minneapolis paper & see the "countdown to meltdown" clock.

Anything, to sell a paper.

I'm on a redtail & so is the Mrs. tomorrow (different flights). Hope all is smooth as possible.

Said my prayers, crossed my fingers, & am going to get to the airport really early.

Wingtip

P.S. Yes, but am hoping for No.

Yes, based on experience last night...

(Yes)

While waiting 20 minutes on the DTW tarmac last night, flight attendants mentioned that mechanics were already leaving the airport with their tools. They had "never seen the place so dead." When asked if they [flight attendants] expected to work next week, they responded (after an awkward silence) "Not Likely."

I see your point, but I love how you couldn't resist to let a little 'agenda' about the paper slip in there, too.

The StarTribune has that countdown clock for all sorts of things. They regularly use it on the front page for Minnesota Twins and Vikings games as well as other events such as the shuttle launch and landing a few weeks ago. The local TV stations all have had a similar clock (haven't flipped on the tube in a few days),
