Jyllands-Posten reports that Denmark should remove all (domestic) restrictions from 31st January and stop classifying COVID as socially dangerous disease from 5th February. No word on border rules yet.

Let's hope their information turns out to be right :)

Didn’t they do that previously or am I confusing Denmark with another country?

Even in the storybook land of Denmark, history repeats itself, right? :D

It is a bit different this time.

When it happened in the summer, it was "openly temporary", because cases were low and pretty much everyone agreed that restrictions will come back when needed during the next wave.

This time around it's happening at an all-time high infection rate on the basis of COVID no longer being a concern for the society and the governemnt's stance is that they need to change not only current restrictions, but overal handling of the disease.

According to DR it seems the test upon arrival is supposed to stay for the moment for non-vaccinated passengers: https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/de...l-ogsaa-af-med

Yes, letting go of domestic restrictions now is based on the immunity of the domestic population.

It should be interesting to see the status by the end of February.

Let's see what Slette Mette is going to say in the press conference in a hour or so.

So far it seems they will do "test within 24 hours of arrival" they had the last autumn and the plan is to remove it after 4 weeks. Otherwise all restrictions are gone.

Looks pretty bright :) Maybe it's time for SAS to start removing mask mandates once again? :)

In today’s news:

As announced, the mandatory testing prior to arrival in Denmark for non-resident foreigners is most likely maintained for 4 weeks, the precise wording of this mandatory requirement is being negotiated and will be announced later this week. It could be that it is only applied to those who are not vaccinated or who have not been infected previously.

Whenever history repeats itself, it’s always a “bit different this time”.

What did PM Mette F say this time?

The main difference is that this time they claim they have no intention to reintroduce restrictions.

She presented three-stage plan. First phase is the remainder of the winter, when she expects situation to be tough for a while, with many people falling ill and possibly some disruptions to services due to that - but with no plans to close the society desire this. Phase two is the spring, summer and possibly autumn when COVID shouldn't be a concern at all. Finally, phase three is expected to kick in mid-autumn or possibly in winter with new COVID wave and new variant(s), in which case another dose may be needed (maybe only for risk groups) and testing may need to be scaled up, but there are no plans to re-close the society.

She [Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister] remarked that it can seem strange and paradoxical to lift all restrictions, because right now we have infection rates that set a record almost day by day and on Wednesday were on the 'good' side of 46,000 new infected on a Day.

But the reason must be found in the fact that despite the very high infection rates, the pressure on the hospitals has eased, and in parallel with the omicron becoming the dominant variant, the number of covid-19 patients on intensive care has halved.
So she appeared to dismiss being infected as anything to consider.

The WHO has warned about not jumping to conclusions about the severity of the hit from Omicron. But who listens to WHO.

PM MF has her head more focused on more traditional national security matters this week than public health matters, so I guess this stuff is a sign of that too.

While in Finland we're not so ahead as Denmark is, the municipal authorities of the capital region already say "If you have no symptoms, you may go to work even if infected. If you have symptoms, just stay home" and there're no "official" (read: free) tests even if you test positive at home. Just another flu, the general thinking goes.

These are interesting positions to take. Denmark seems to believe that as long as their healthcare system isn’t overwhelmed everything is okay.
