So my fight with Chase now is over a $6 monthly fee. They say I didn't do 5 debit card transactions in the month. I did, but they change the statement date each month.
So it's: a) not the calendar month and b) not the same date each month Nice little scam to rack up the fees. And my direct deposit won't cover that base either since I split it into so many places already. I plan to close the account. I just don't know how long to wait to keep from getting a miles clawback. For example a statement cycle date of 5 could be anywhere from the 5th to the 8th of the month depending on bank holidays and weekends. In general it is 90 days (or 4th statement) from account opening to avoid chargeback on miles. |

Being a former chase employee, the statement date that shows in the system (i.e. 15) is actually the number of business days into the month that your statement cycles on.

I guess that's where we were disconnecting, because I was discussing future CO offers specifically, not future Chase offers in general. I see that your concern is that opening CO credit now ruins your ability to apply for any future Chase offers in general, whereas we have & have had multiple UA cards and the BA card so as far as I'm concerned (you must not agree since you've had them as well) we are already tainted for UA & BA & will remain tainted. I believe you're saying you feel your UA & BA cards will "age out" and without spoiling that scenario by applying for what you perceive as insignificant CO bonuses, you'll be ready for the mega-bonus you predict.
In other words, you absolutely see a huge Chase bonus on the horizon, and you see a work-around to having had previous Chase cards. Whereas I see the possibility of a huge Chase bonus on the horizon, but I see extremely difficult or non-existent work-around to having had previous Chase cards, which led me to go for the only Chase option I hadn't used, which were the CO cards. I hope you're right and I'm wrong! In case you're not, and Chase remains strict or becomes stricter about churning, for those truly outstanding bonuses you are predicting, I have my group travel Mom and non travel brother to fall back on. As their guru (and I use that term extremely loosely, compared to my awe for the average FTer), I keep them "virginal" and basically don't promote churning with them. I think I've used Mom twice over many years & I don't think I've ever used my brother. If an out of this world offer came along, I'd do what I did before, I'd guide them thru applying, pay any fees that are necessary, do their spend for them, and they can get us tickets, since they have no use for the miles. I guess they are a form of travel insurance! I'm pleased with my decision to go for the CO credit card offer in tandem with the checking/debit card offer, you're pleased with yours not to, life is good! I'm uber-willing to hope that your prognostications about future credit card bonuses are right and mine aren't. I think we have been OT for the OnePass checking long enough. :D

I am fairly confident we will see better offers in not too distant future. :)
Happy to report that husband has received the targeted 50K CO card with first year fee waived. Since his CO balance is less than mine, this works out well. Of course I hope I would get the same targeted offer, too. Our last CO cards were almost 3 years ago so we should be OK in Chase' eyes. Hopefully your group travel members would receive similar offer as well. EDIT: Just got the same offer email for myself as well! :-) |

Personal checking has never been on a calendar month cycle AFAIK for almost any bank, except CapitalOne which makes it a calendar month after your first cycle. On top of that, the non pin transactions posted a few days after the actual transaction because it is processed by different network. If you cut it too close to the statement date, you are SOL. Business checking seems to be quite close to the calendar month but seems to base on last business day of the month. Our business accounts were opened on the 29th of October, the first statement closed on 30th of October and our 10K opening bonuses posted on November 4th! Since then I try to make all the 5 debit card transactions at the first half of the month, despite it seems if one has both business checking and premium checking (personal) linked together, one does not need to do anything... but my banker told me I need to do 5 debit card Non Pin on the business account so I just do it. Not a big deal and rather to be safe than sorry. |
Has anyone open addt debit cards on there acct for other users? up to 3 for 2500 miles? What info do they need on those other users? Do they need to come in and sign anything ?

Is this a personal checking or a business checking?

But I'm not willing to spend money for it. So I'll wait a month or two, try to do the transactions or just pay for a bit, and then close it all. I actually wanted to open a business account and really use it and close my business HSBC account. But I've been through a lot with this account already, and I just don't see pursuing it. Plus, AFAIK, the bonus for the biz account is gone. |
I dont why I thought this but I was under the impression if I made 5 or more purchases a month using the card and choosing credit I did not need the direct deposit.
Did I make this up in my head? I am freaking out because I think the 60 days has passed. |

Just as an FYI, you can just do a ACH Direct Deposit (i.e. trf from say paypal/etrade/ing/etc) and it will count as a direct deposit. Based on the new rules, just make sure it is for say $501.00. Also, keep in mind that you can simply have the $501.00 go into the account and then have it transferred back the next day. Assuming you have $501 elsewhere, this makes it VERY simple to not worry about it. Simply set up a recurring push from your other bank/online account, of $501.00 for any day, and then set up a recurring pull from your other bank/online account, of $501.00 the next day. No hassle. Hope that helps.
SuperG03 I have not looked into the fine print of this, but on other Chase accounts it SPECIFIES the DD must be either Payroll or Government type. |

Two separate fees
So I open my account online but I opened my wife's account in person at a branch. Yesterday my account is hit with a $25 fee and my wife's $65. Heres the weird part. My wife got 50,000 airline miles and I got 25,000. Anyone else get the 50k for $65?

How long did it take for you guys' 2500 miles from Continental to post after the 22.5k from Chase posted? It has been about 4 weeks and still no sign.
